Hello All, I have pasted below an edited version of an email (I have added notes in brackets and blocked a few words), I received today by a chap researching the history of his house and was wondering if anybody could help him. I can pass on his email address off list. Effie's first marriage was to a Charles Kite who I believe was born in Gravesend and died in 1917 Belgium, they appear to have been resident in the Basingstoke area at that time. Effie possibly had another child after his death before marrying a Herbert J Saunders in 1927 probably in Tadley. We bought our house **** Cottage in Tadley in October 2006 from the '***' family. They purchased it from the estate of the late Mrs Effie Saunders (born Effie Cripps) Her father was John Cripps of Tadley. (Actually George Saunders - Bob) Effie was born in ***** Cottage circa 1890 (Aug 1890 - Bob) and died in the cottage circa 1990/1991 (Jun 1991 - Bob) having lived at the same address for 101 years! Her mother Fanny Monger worked as a governess at Fairlawn House and the family were well known in the local area. Our house was built around 1667 and I hope to trace it's occupants back that far. In meantime I am very intersted in the life of Effie Cripps as she lived there for so long and i'm led to believe was a real local character. I have heard storys of how each summer she'd cut her grass with a sythe and lean on the gate and give apples to local children. I would love to have known what she looked like, but have yet to find any pictures of her, although I believe that the Basinsgtoke Gazette may have one of her 100th Birthday.
