James Taylor was born ca Apr 1731 so a roughly same age as Mary dau of John & Mary mentioned previously so she could have been that witness. However there appears to be no burial in Kingsclere for the Mary born ca1734 other than one on 18 Sep 1755 (with no age given) which if it was her would mean it was another Mary who witnessed the marriage of James Taylor. The only earlier Mary Aldridge marriages are in Silchester in 1768 or Basingstoke in 1770 In any case I think she would have been too old at age 38 to start having children so was not the Mary who married Joseph Bridgeman. Thanks Nigel, I have got this marriage, their daughter Elizabeth TAYLOR/TAILOR married John ALDRIDGE 26 Nov 1798 St. Mary's Kingsclere. Witnesses are Sarah TAYLOR nee MAY mother and Richard RODE. Again neither John LEWIS or I have got parents for John ALDRIDGE, can you or anyone else help there, thanks. Kind regards Barbara Lewis Mallyon Basingstoke, Hants. Looking at the Hants Bapt Index there was a John Aldridge baptise at Burghclere on 6 Oct 1773, Parents listed only as John. the John who married Elizabeth Taylor died well before the 1851 Census so cannot get a birth place from that. HMI: 10 Oct 1764, Aldridge John, Brown Mary, Monk Sherborne looked to be a 'most likely' marriage but there are no baptism recorded in the Index for any John & Mary and any other marriage must have occurred before the starting date of the Marr Index. There are three more baptisms where the single parent John is given:- Mary in 1769 plus Ellen 1767 & Isaac 1775 (both baptised at Newtown) There are earlier baptisms for John & Sarah:- Joseph in 1752, Olive in 1755 and Abraham in 1758 (with Note: dead) So are they the same family as that of 'John' ? -- John Lewis Debian & the GeneWeb genealogical data server
