Hello Maureen the Grigg family is on the website as you know but I only have Charlotte born ca 1787 I have just looked at Hants Bapt Index, which I didn't have when I first put her & Richard into the database, and I thought a good 'possible' would be the Charlotte baptised at Whitchurch on 31 May 1784 to Thomas & Sarah except neither of those two names appear in the names of descendants. The same applies to the Charlotte baptised in 1785 to John & Hannah or Charlotte baptised in 1788 to Samuel & Dinah - both at Hurstbourne Tarrant. Which leaves the Charlotte baseborn dau of Jane bapt 20 Aug 1786 at Basingstoke, 'from the workhouse'. A Jane Smith was born in Sherfield on Loddon in 1766 so right sort of age to be a mother in 1786, Her parents were Thomas & Elizabeth. The one born in Tufton in 1771 is a bit too young, but it is all a bit guesswork. I am inclined to go with the Basingstoke Charlotte if only because history repeated itself with her daughter Charlotte having a baseborn dau Jane in 1837 The 1841 Census does say Charlotte 'born in county' so I don't think we need to look outside Hampshire. -- John Lewis Debian & the GeneWeb genealogical data server
