    1. [King] ROLFE = COPPERTHWAITE Chelsea Marriage in 1848

    3. Hi List, I have found and share a new link between the ROLFE and COPPERTHWAITE Kingsclere families both from arising from Kingsclere but living at Winchester St, Overton, Hants and next door to each other in the 1841 census. John Copperthwaite was an apprentice blacksmith in the H/H of John Dodd (started in 1840for six years) and married the girl next door but the marriage took place (perhaps because of her young age or that she was in service) up in Chelsea RD in 1848. He must have watched her growing up and waited until she was of age and his apprenticeship was finished. This material extends one of the Rolfe trees with more data. Details are below, It does call into question exactly who was the Joseph Rolfe who was the father of Isaac Rolfe (1834-1835) at Kingsclere. A younger couple than Joseph and Mary Rolfe nee Nash I would expect. John Stevens Rolfe was baptised John Stephen Rolfe. The 1841 census has Joseph Rolfe b ca 1773 in Overton and his son and daughter in law and grandchildren are in the same household including Mary Rolfe who married John Copperthwaite. The spelling of Copperthwaite is highly variable in the census data and even gets as far as Coppersmith. Can anybody add any more details on either family? Regards, Nigel Details. Two more children for John Steven & Sarah (Beal) John bapt Overton on 10 Jan 1829 Joseph bapt Overton on 16 Jan 1836 Sarah Beal bapt Overton on 20 April 1800, parents William Beal & Sarah Taplin, married at Overton on 15 Mar 1796 Sarah had an illegit child, Patience, with William bapt on 25 Oct 1795 and an earlier illegit child, Harriot, bapt on 11 Aug 1793, father was Thomas Beal, who may be the Thomas buried at Overton on 28 Mar 1793. William Beal seems to have been the only child of Richard Beal & Sarah Glover who married at N Waltham on 5 Jul 1768 Marriages Jun 1855: NEALE Louisa & ROLFE William, Chelsea 1a 228 William was recorded living in Chelsea in 1861 with wife Louisa, he was then a boot & shoemaker. They were living in Kensington in 1871 when he was a postman. Haven't found them after that date, not surprising given he was transcribed as ROLPE in 1861 As for Joseph & Elizabeth with son Isaac, who incidentally died at Headly Common and was buried at St Mary on 28 Feb 1835, I am wondering if Elizabeth should really be Bethany. Joseph ca1794 and Bethany ca 1795 had their children in the Headly Common area and he was a shoemaker as was Isaac's father, He is the only Joseph having children at the relevant time. > Details. <snipped> -- John Lewis Debian & the GeneWeb genealogical data server
