    3. Hello: For years, about 49-50 have been searching for parents of my gg-grandfather, known as John "Charles" Homans; surname Homans could be the name that he picked to use when landing in Nova Scotia, purchased 100 acres of land in 1847. He only said he was born England, no mention of parents etc. However some time before he died in N.S. in 1899 age 80; A gentleman named Mr. Major came to visit Charles as he was known here. Mr. Major was second husband of mother (no first name or surname) of Charles. I do have some pictures that were found among items of Charles after he died. One, could be picture of his parents on tin plate, taken in Canterbury, also other pictures. I keep looking and hope to solve my mystery. Surname could have been Holden/Holmans. Thank you very much, Jacquie in Nova Scotia ----- Original Message ----- From: "john lewis" <zen57162@zen.co.uk> To: <eng-hampshire-kingsclere@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 10, 2009 9:51 AM Subject: Re: [King] Holley Family > On Tue, 8 Sep 2009 19:03:26 EDT > DEBBIEKENNETT@aol.com wrote: > >> The MAJORS also link in with the TIDBURYS but I have no record of a >> Martha MAJOR. > > I have just established that she was _not_ the Martha Rose Major > baptised at St. Giles Reading on 11 Jun 1837, with parents Thomas & > Maria as Martha Rose was married on 14 August 1850, St. Giles, Reading, > to Charles John Dowling ca 1831 and had 8 children between then & 1869 > > Thomas Major was baptised at Southill, Beds on 12 April 1794 and buried > London Road Cemetery, Reading on 21 Jun 1863.
