Thanks for pointing out Charles was a son of John & Letitia, I'd linked him to Joseph & Sarah (my excuse is that I only had the 1851 Census INDEX at the time) I'll add the maiden name of Sarah to wife of Henry. the place of marriage makes sense given she was born in Acton. I have now added to their family which now consists of: Henry 1873-1875 James ca 1875-1942 Jane ca 1877 Joseph ca 1879-1880 George ca 1881 Sarah Ann ca 1883 John ca 1885 Charles ca 1887 Annie ca 1888 Edward ca 1890 Jesse ca 1893-1947 Willie ca 1896 with Sarah through to Edward being born in Greenham I have also added a maiden name for Ada, wife of James Kewell ca1875 Marriages Sep 1897: BROWN Ada & Kewell James, Hungerford 2c 557 since Ada was recorded as being born in Kintbury in 1901 Census I suspect she married at St. Mary, Kintbury. -- John Lewis Debian & the GeneWeb genealogical data server

    3. Hi John and list, I have been digging further into the Kewell family and can add some more to what John has on his recently updated website. Sarah Kewell born in 1841 to William and Sarah Kewell nee Tidbury did not die in 1845. She was alive and well in 1861 living as a visitor at East Woodhay in the h/h of Nathaniel Pocock who had been born at Kingsclere . Next door was her sister Jane b ca 1828 who had married Thomas Pocock in 1859, They (Thomas and Jane) had two children Joseph Pocock age 12 and Catherine Pocock age 4. Sarah married in 1861 Thomas Ayre(s) FreeBMD Kingsclere 3Q 2c 363. Her brother Robert Kewell b ca 1834 married Martha Chandler ( b ca 1842 Chisbury Wilts) on the 23 June 1866 at Enborne Berks and died in 1873 FreeBMD Newbury 2c 143 with a given age of 37. Martha had two daughters Anna Elizabeth Kewell in 1871 and Alice Kewell ca 1875 and went on to marry John Cooper (b 1841 Basildon ,Berks ) in 1878 with a son Frederick R. Cooper born in Newbury in 1880. John had another son Thomas W. Cooper who had been born in 1868 at Newbury. Alice is a detached twig on John's website but now she can be linked in. Her sister Anna Elizabeth died in 1901 (Newbury RD). Anna Elizabeth was with her mother in the 1891 census as a visitor. Sarah's sister Mary Ann Kewell b ca 1832 married John Coventry in 1854 and the details of their family is already on John's website. Her brother Henry Kewell b ca 1831 married Eliza E. No surname found yet for Eliza E. but they are together in the 1881 census at 34 Tower St, Southwark, Surrey. Henry was a wood sawyer and recorded the same employment in 1871. There were two sons and two daughters. I have not yet tried mispelling of Kewell on the FreeBMD database. Of the siblings it leaves an additional Jemima who John has a death recorded for, at age 3 months, in 1845. Beyond the birth of James (brother to Sarah) in 1826 nothing more of him is known at the moment. Perhaps there is an infant or child burial at Ecchinswell. The mother Sarah Tidbury died in 1859 FreeBMD Kingsclere 4Q 2c 132 and William her husband died in either 1853 or 1854 as there are two Kingsclere RD entries for William Kewell one in each year. I think where Catherine Kewell has been recorded on the website as the wife of Isaac Alder it should be Caroline Kewell with parents John and Letitia Kewell nee Bridgeman using the census data and the FreeBMD marriage. I think the Kingsclere Kewell family may have come from central Hampshire where the name was spelt as Cuell. The IGI would suggest the family came from West Sussex.
