    3. Hello Listers.   With reference to the recent issue of email accounts being hacked into, I have in the last two weeks experienced at least three attempts to place a "trojan horse" on my computer: for those who don't know, this is software that lets its owner use/control someone else's computer to log onto websites anonymously.  Luckily these were all picked up and deleted by my anti-virus progarmme.   Today, while my computer was in “idle” mode, but not logged on to the internet, there have been innumerable attempts to install “tracking cookies”– these are small bits of software that tell some remote site what websites you visit.  The purported sources for these are so many and various that I am convinced they may in turn have been “hacked”.  One of these is alleged to be Tribalfusion, a genealogy site.    I am by no means a software boffin, but  you might all wish to check that your own computer is safe and that your anti-virus software is up to date!   Regards, Mike

    3. Hello All, Thank you Bob and Mike for the information that you have sent to the List. Regarding Dawn, she has been subscribed to Kingsclere for quite a while, I was surprised that she sent her advertising message to the List, if her computer had been got at, this could be the reason. Regarding Mike's message quote. > I am by no means a software boffin, but you might all wish to check > that your own computer is safe and that your anti-virus software is > up to date! The message "Make sure your Anti Virus Protection is updated and do a weekly backup of your files", this reminder has been programmed by me Admin, for you to read at the bottom of every message sent to the Kingsclere List, since 5 April 2008. I hope at least some of you have taken notice of this message, it could save all of your hard work, if you ever need to use your back up. Best wishes Barbara Lewis Mallyon Basingstoke, Hants.
