    3. I have an American contact tracing the Pike family. His earliest known relative is a Thomas Pike born 1752 Married to Mary Newport 27 October 1777 in Linkenholt Hants buried St James Ashmansworth 26 May 1831. He asks can anyone provide detail of earlier family. The American connection is that Thomas had a grandson who went to the States and died in Illinois.

    3. I suggest you contact David PIKE at the University of Newfoundland in Canada. David is doing a one-name study on the PIKE surname and I am sure he will be able to help. You can find his websites by searching for the surname on the Guild of One-Name Studies website: http://www.one-name.org Debbie Kennett

I've had a look at David Pike's website and it appears he has concentrated on Newfoundland Pike/Pykes and their Dorset origins. I can't see any reference to the North Hampshire/Berkshire ones. I have bookmarked the site however and my wife may find something of interest as she has Dorset Pikes in her database -- John Lewis Debian & the GeneWeb genealogical data server

    3. Back in 2006 I started to compile a PIKE Miscellaneous file for mentions of the name in 'our' district of interest, in the hope that one day I might feel inclined to launch the daunting task of transcribing all extant Ashmansworth records to compensate for the loss of the Parish Registers etc in the fire of the early 19th Century. However, personal research gained momentum elsewhere and my trips to HRO diminished accordingly, so I have not pursued in their entirety these references I found: 83M76/PO2 Whitchurch Overseers Book containing list of persons having settlement certificates, with parish of origin [compiled from 1768] p5 Sarah PIKE, Wootton St Lawrence, 1746 p5 Robert PIKE, Hurstbourne Priors, 1746 p7v Robert PIKE, Ashmansworth, 1790 Microfiche 1756P/29 Will of John PIKE of East Woodhay, Hampshire, Yeoman 1756 Doc ref: 19M61/2939 Copy will of John PIKE of East Woodhay, yeoman, 16 Aug 1750, proved in Winchester 12 Jul 1756 21M65/F2/3/222 Title: Meeting house certificate: Ashmansworth Date: 21 Nov 1808 Description: In house of Thomas LAMBDEN occupied by Thomas PIKE 21M65/F2/4/161 Title: Meeting house certificate: Ashmansworth Date: 23 Dec 1824 Description: House of George PIKE, William WORTH of Newbury, Berks, preacher 59M74/E/T4 Appleshaw etc deeds Title: Marriage Settlement of Robert and Sarah PIKE Date 2 May 1719
