The Ecchinswell baptisms at that time were included in the baptism register for St, Mary, Kingsclere. The registers were deposited with Hampshire Records Office at Winchester and if you are unable to visit there you could email them to ask for a printout of the relevant page from the fiche. David Palmer Stevens was indeed baptised on 20 Feb 1818 and is entry 399 in the register. It reads May 20th (1818) David Palmer illegitimate son of Mary Stevens Ecchinswell Spinster Jno Mitchell Vicar Mary subsequently married George Taylor on 16 Sep 1820, also I have assumed at St Lawrence, Ecchinswell. -- John Lewis Debian & the GeneWeb genealogical data server

    3. Hello. I am trying to obtain a copy of the baptismal entry of David Palmer Stevens who was apparently baptised in Ecchinswell on 20th March 1818, apparently the illegitimate son of Mary Stevens. It seems that the registers for Ecchinswell are not available on Ancestry.co.uk so can anyone kindly advise me where the registers - or copies thereof - might reside please? In passing, if anyone on this list has a personal interest in the Stevens family of Ecchinswell I would be delighted to hear from them. Many thanks John Stevens

I have looked at various records and found Cottrells (and variations of this name) in and around Basingstoke. There are records of Sarah Cottrell buried at Kingsclere 1737, and it is possible she was Mary's sister. Does anyone have any Cottrells from around this time or earlier in their family tree? Pam

    3. Hi All, Stephen Smith b ca 1777 (from age at death) was my 3X Great Grandfather, he married Elizabeth Chees(e)man on 26 Feb 1810 at Thatcham, Berks. Can anybody prove or disprove that Elizabeth was the daughter of Richard and Ann Cheeseman b ca 1758 nee Hussey? Elizabeth was baptised at St Mary Beenham on 11 May 1793. Elizabeth Smith died some time after 1814 and it was a second marriage for Stephen after his first wife Frances Crate Wickes died in 1809 and was buried at Burghclere on 02 Jun 1809. Stephen died in 1828 with a given age of 51. Thanks in advance for your interest and help. Regards, Nigel Gerdes PS. Frances Crate might have been WIX rather than WICKES. So far I have been unable to trace her parents.

    1. Re: [King] [LOVELOCK] Elizabeth LOVELOCK and HISSEY (sic) HUSSEY
    2. Nigel St C Gerdes
    3. Hissey could be misspelled. The name Hussey is to be found in the area and indeed there was an Elizabeth Hussey baptised 13 June 1766 at Beenham, Berks to John and Sarah Hussey nee Champ who in turn had been married 20 July 1752 at Bradfield, Berks. The details of the siblings of Elizabeth b ca 1766 are to be found on the website of John Lewis at: http://startx.co.uk:2317/Kingsclere?i=51697 (Use the 'up arrow' at top right of the displayed page to regain the main menu) Elizabeth has no spouse shown on John's site at the moment so the prospect of a potential link between the Hussey family and the Lovelocks will be of great interest to the Hussey researches who frequent the Eng-Hampshire-Kingsclere rootsweb list. Thus I am sending additionally this reply to the Eng- Hampshire-Kingsclere list. 3. Hello John. Many thanks for the information. I do hope this is my Hannah RANDALL but I'm not sure how I will prove it. The two marriage entries you sent me from Free BDM has me intrigued. > I found the marriage of Elizabeth Blackford (eventually) on FreeBMD: > Marriages Jun 1849: Minns George, Kingston 4 256 > Marriages Jun 1849: Blackford Elizabeth Hannah, Kingston 4 399 I have the Cert for the marriage of George MINNS to Elizabeth BLACKFORD but the cert. makes no mention of a second name Hannah. May 28th 1849 at Hook. Reg. Dist Kingston. This is my George his sister and brother in law Mary and Thomas EDWARDS were witnesses. Fathers George MINNS & John BLACKFORD. > Emma ca 1850 Kingston > George ca 1852 ( Born 28th May 1851 Southwark my ancestor) > Anna ca 1856 Kingston > Jane ca 1861 Hampton > Henry ca 1863 Hampton Married Emma KIDD June Q 1897 I have them on all of the census. George was a Domestic coachman and I think his employer probably had homes in both Hampton & Southwark and they travelled back and forth. From the census I haven't found his employers name. In 1871 they were at Grove Cottage Hampton. In 1881 he is in Mayfair and I think he was working for Lord Curzon. I am gathering up lots of details I need and when I'm ready I will have a look at the entry I found on Ancestry and see where the MINNS name fits in. This way I can pay for a sub. now and again. It doesn't make such a big hole in my pension. I did most of my census research the hard way, on film at my LDS, but I'm so glad Ancestry are now putting a lot of the PR on their site. I think I should have looked further at those Kingston Lisle marriages as there is this entry which would seem to rule out Rose Hannah as a candidate for Hannah of Highclere. ROSANNA RANDAL & WILLIAM BUTLER, 14 MAY 1821, Kingston Lisle, Berks and this looks like that family in Kingston Lisle in 1841 William Butler 60 Hannah Butler 50 John Butler 20 Mary Butler 14 Sarrah Butler 12 a William Butler age 77 was buried at Sparsholt on 27 Mar 1853 which roughly fits the 1841 William.
