Hi Rodney, As I thought Stan "Stocker" Stacey was a regular at the Royal Oak, but also a pub musician, he and a couple of other locals played in the Oak most week-ends and the plaque refers to the spot where he stood. 2. Tom I am also researching the Hutchins family, Bob & I share the same Hutchins ggfather. Are you by any chance connected with the Annie Hutchins who married Albert Sheppard in 1928. If so I would be interested to know which Annie this might be (I had noted it but waiting to confirm correct person), as there are three possible candidates. (a) Annie Hutchins born 1885 in Ecchinswell daughter of Alfred John & Eliza Plater. (b) Annie Hutchins born 7 November 1899 in Ashford Hill & daughter of Francis John & Edith Hiscock. (c) Nethy born 1891 in Haughurst Hill & daughter of James & Jane Banbury. Although recorded as Nethy at birth in 1911 census she was listed as Annie. If the above marriage is not connected to you apologises. Gerald Soper In a message dated 28/01/2010 22:36:49 GMT Standard Time, ssatds@sbcglobal.net writes: Bob, My mothers maiden name was HUTCHINS. As some of you know my connection with Kingsclere area is the STOCKER family My enquiry concerns a brass plate that is affixed to the floor of the Royal Oak pub at Ecchinswell; that village is where the STOCKER family lived late 1700s and early 1800s. The wording on the plate is as follows:- Stan " Stocker" Stacey stood here. I am sure that someone on the list will know the significance of the wording and also all about the person concerned. I would be grateful to know all about it please.
