Hi Barbara, I must admit I have given up ever finding out who the parents of Elizabeth that married Christopher Hutchins were, perhaps in 12 or so years when I retire, I will have the time to drive to Winchester and look at the PR's especially as the Hants GS don't seem able to provide much in the way of info on CD. I don't know whether that's because of internal politics like Berkshire or lack of local volunteers. Still if it's bad for me and others who live away from the county, It is much worse for those researchers who live outside the UK :-) Bob -- Genealogy Database Powered by TNG on Linux Mint Server http://www.bobhutchins.me.uk http://www.roberthutchins.me.uk On Tue, 2010-03-23 at 17:05 +0000, Barbara Mallyon wrote: > Hello John, Bob and All, > > Thought this inform would interest you. > > Elizabeth BAUGHURST born Basingstoke married William MARCHANT of > Worting, Worting, Basingstoke 13 January 1741 > IGI film 184643 > > Baptism of Eliza BAUGHURST 13 February 1831 Kingsclere PR. Hi Mark Could the wording on the marriage certificate be General Dealer? Were there any CREW witnesses recorded on the marriage certificate? I think I have a 'match' with a CREWE/CREW family originating in Dorset. Dorothy
Hi Mark Take a look at John Lewis's website: http://startx.co.uk:2317/Kingsclere I can confirm that both Arthur and 'Marthyr' were alive in 1911 at Burghclere. Have a look in the archives on the Kingsclere Rootsweb site and perform a search for Jewell. According to John Crew and Ethel Jewell marriage certificate, John Crew father was George Crew born around 1860, and died efore John was married in 1914 and shows on marriage certificate that he was a something dealer (could not read). Ethel Jewell parents were Arthur Jewell and Martha Anne Cummins. Ethel also had a sister called Alice Jewell who married Charles Hart. If anyone can give me any more information it would be gratefully received. Would like to know what it must been like for my grandmother Ethel Jewell when she was growing up, did she come from a well ff family or were they qute poor? Any other information you have about John Crew and his wife Ethel? Any info on John Crew and who was his wife, why did he die and what was his job, dealer? (what kind of dealer?) I know Barbara is going to be able to send me info to track the Jewell family back to the 1700s. Anyway hope this is not too long and look forward to hearing from you all. kind regards Mark Webster.

Hi John I saw you email. Copied below back in Feb. but held off responding as I didn't have a birth cert. for my grandfather (Arthur Stephen Taylor b.04/08/1880) at the time. I have a cert now and can confirm that Arthur Stephen Taylor b.04/08/1880 is the son of Israel and Patience Taylor of Baughurst. My problem is that I don't seem to be related to any of the information that came from various emails during February. Also below you state that Israel and Patience Taylor had had 6 children by 1891. I have no doubt you know a lot more about this type of research than I do but! I have ten children listed in that time frame. Clara b.1872/4 met this lady she ran Baughust post office Israel b.1874 Kings Sept. qtr 2c 215 Martha b.1876 Kings 2c 232 Henry Thomas b.1877 Kings Dec. qtr 1877 2c 230 Patience A b.1877 Sarah Jane b.1879 Kings 2c 242 Arthur Stephen b. Aug.1880 my grandfather Florence b.1884 Harry b.1885 Sam b.1890 Which ones do you think are wrong. There seems to be too many Israel's and Patience's married to one another for me to cope with? I lived in Tadley, it is called a town now! but when I went to school there in the 1940's the one school only had about 300 children. So quite a small place then and even smaller back in the time frame we're dealing with. Puzzle now is who were his parents. FreeBMD has no entry for him but does have a:- Births Dec 1851: MILLS Patience, Kingsclere 7 122 and Patience & Thomas are to be found as in the 1861 Census as follows: 1861 Census, Heath End, Tadley: William Chapman, head, 56, ag lab, Tadley Ann Chapman, wife, 49, , Hannington --- --- Patience Mills, g-dau, 9, , Tadley Thomas Mills, g-son, 7, , Tadley Ann Chapman was in fact Anne Mills, bapt at Baughurst on on 4 Aug 1811, dau of Richard Mills & Phoebe Bye who had married a few months earlier in Baughurst. I am wondering if Patience and Thomas were children of Thomas Mills Broom Maker, born about July 1815 at Baughurst and his wife Caroline Sadgrove born about 1821 in Wokingham. I have recorded only one child so far, Emma Elizabeth, born about December 1848 in Tadley, so Patience & Thomas would fit into the family. Patience married Isaac Taylor from Brimpton, Sep Qtr 1871, Kingsclere RD and had 6 children by 1891 and they are still living in Baughurst in 1901. I haven't been able to find Thomas in 1871 but he is recorded with wife Sophia in 1881/1891, No trace of them on 1901. -- John Lewis

Hello Everyone, The latest edition of the Hampshire Genealogical Society magazine, March 2010 issue. There is a good coverage of the DC ROMs, microfiche and other publications listed about the Monumental Inscriptions. Having cashed in my non winning Premium Bonds, I bought myself a good microfiche reader, so I plan to buy some of the microfiche, they are sold in Parishes, beginning with "A" Ampost, Appleshaw, Ashe, Ashmansford Avington, Awbridge all for £1.50 if I collect them, or by post £2.00 in UK and £2.50 for overseas. See www.hgs-online.org.uk Publications. I plan to collect the Monumental Inscriptions on microfiche, for the Registration District of Kingsclere, hoping that I may learn something more about our ancestors. Has anyone already got any of these microfiche ? Kind regards Barbara Lewis Mallyon Basingstoke, Hants. UK BarbaraMallyon@lewmal.co.uk
