    1. 1901 Census update
    2. Barbara Mallyon
    3. A message from the PRO. Subject: FFHS-NEWS 1901 Census - access to be withdrawn for 2 weeks We have noticed that the PRO have updated the statement on their web-site - not on their main page, although the 'Updated' details indicate it was changed at 2pm. Instead one needs to follow the links from either 'Further information is available' or 'Service Centres' to these respective pages. The latest development is buried in the middle of the former, but prominently displayed on the latter. In both cases, the new wording says:- "The 1901 Census Service will not be available at Service Centres from 17:00 GMT, 6 February 2002 until 20 February 2002. This is in order to allow full testing of service after the enhancements have been implemented. We apologise for the unavailability of the service during this period." Whilst access being completely unavailable for 2 weeks is extremely frustrating, the wording implies that we might see access widened at the end of that period (assuming the testing does not throw up further problems created by the enhancements). Turn this off and only put addresses in your address book that you know you need. This will limit the damage to some extent. Ideally keep your trusted email addresses in a plain text file somewhere on your system and copy/paste them into your emails and don't use the address books in your mail proggie. 3. Thank you Derek and Dennis for the warning about the Virus that are going around. Don't Forget to update your Virus protection, on McAfee, we update once a week, also very important take a weekly back up. The backups are needed not just for Virus protection, if you accidentally delete something important, the backup can save all of your hard work from being lost, I know. New subscribers PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN ASKED IF YOU WILL ACCEPT AN ATTACHMENT, write to the person who has sent the attachment to find out what the attachment is all about. 3. WINTERBOURNE : MILLER : HUTCHENCE/HUTCHINS/HUDGENS : ASTRICH/ASTRIDGE : CUMMINS : BARNES : DOLLERY : MENELL : PALMER : HORNBLOW : SIMPSON : BAUGHURST I have just found the Kingsclere list, so have had an interesting session checking it out. Unfortunately, so far I haven't found any links with my own names. Several members of the family have tried to progress further back with the WINTERBOURNE line but all grind to a halt with John who married Sarah CUMMINS at Hannington 15.10.1804. The census traces the WINTERBOURNES in Swan Street, Kingsclere from 1841-189l. I have a fairly comprehensive family tree of Daniel WINTERBOURNE 1837 - 1903 who married Ellen Maria MILLER 1838 - 1904 who lived closeby in George Street. The eldest son, Frederick WINTERBOURNE 1865 - 1936 married Saraj GRACE 1846 - 1946 and lived in Rose Cottage, Swan Street with their fourteen children. The youngest daughter May Ellen married Walter WILLIAMS and they emigrated to Canada in 1912. I endorse the recurring encouragement for Anti Virus protection. InitiaIly in my total ignorance I was of the opinion that it was somewhat unnecessary but subsequently experience has proved Norton Anti Virus to be essential. Valerie Stevens - Norwich
