    3. Hi John, That formatted perfectly, plenty to get our teeth into, thank you very much. It is so bewildering to be on this list, everybody is searching the same families! I don't suppose anybody knows anything about any OLIVER's do they? I have :- Elisabeth Herbert Oliver AKA: Betty Born: 1778 - Church Oakley Christened: 1778 - Preston Candover Died: 1852 Buried: 10 Nov 1852 - Hannington Churchyard She married Joseph BAGGS in Church Oakley on 9th Feb 1807. I would be pleased if someone came up with an answer for me! Regards, Carol

    3. Hello everybody, Firstly congratulations to Barbara and everyone who has made this list so successful. Secondly, here is my list of people who I seek in Kingsclere area. There was a marriage at East Woodhay in 1762 between Charles Stocker and Anne Tyrell. Ann was a widow having been previously married to John Tyrrell in 1757 (Yes there are two spellings of the surname) Ann/Anne had the surname Bridgeman at her first marriage, a name very common in the area. Nevertheless she is still eluding me. At marriage Charles was " of Mortimer, Berks." I still seek the baptism of both persons. Their son Charles Stocker married twice both times at Thatcham. The first wife was Hannah Pocock and the second Hannah Clargo, the marriages being in 1790 and 1800 respectively. I think I have the details of most Clargo families, they were mainly in west Berkshire and East Wiltshire. However, I still seek the origin of Hannah who most ungraciously died a few weeks before the 1851 census. She is not the one from Bucklebury. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Rod Whale, Andover.

    3. Hello All, To the new subscribers, Welcome to the Kingsclere and Villages rootsweb mailing list. Peter GOFF has a very good and informative website email:- www.kingsclere.org.uk Peter has a section where he has listed the names of ancestors being researched and the names and emails of the people that are researching them. To help Peter add more names to this list, please send the names of the ancestors that you are researching in Kingsclere and the villages, of Ashford Hill, Sydmonton, Ecchinswell, Baughurst, Hannington, Ewhurst, Wolverton, Hannington, Ewhurst, Highclere, Ashmansworth, Burghclere, Tadley, Woodcott and any of the other small village around Kingsclere to the List. The reason for the Anniversary Roll Call, was so that Peter and John LEWIS are able to pick up the names from your Roll Call, I was the only one to list the ancestors names that I am researching. How can you get help from the List if you do not tell us who and what you are researching. John LEWIS is piecing to-gether a giant family history puzzle of our ancestors and making a very good job of it. John would like you to send him your family tree, he may send you a lot of family tree information in return, email John on jayell@ntlworld.com Colin Harris one of our subscribers, has a website listing Kingsclere and Woodlands Burials, email :- http://www.colin.harris4.btinternet.co.uk/kingsclereburials.htm Regards Barbara Mallyon Basingstoke, Hants, UK BarbaraMallyon@lewmal.co.uk Listowner

    3. Hello from Australia. I am not sure if I am on the right list, but here goes. I have an uncle who was in the Australian Army in WW! and a naughty boy he was! After a few minor charges he finally struck a superior officer and was the subject of a Court Martial held at Perham Downs. He was awarded 25 years penal servitude, but apparenty mercy prevailed and it was reduced to 2 years. I am trying to find if there was an Army prison facility at Perham Downs in WW1. I know there was an Army establishment there and I have been told that there still is. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers Bob Cunning, Melbourne in Spring.

Hi I had a look among the many Hannah Smiths I have listed and found one born ca 1774. I have her as one of the children of Joseph Smith and Mary Taylor who married at St. Mary, Kingsclere on 1 Apr 1758. Their children are Hannah 1760, Ann 1763, Sarah 1766, Joseph 1767, Mary 1769, Hannah 1774, Martha 1777 and James ca 1779. I don't have any more detail at present on this family. Joseph was a son of John Smith and Mary Churchman who married at St. Mary on 19 Sep 1724 and had the following children:- Joanna ca 1725, Elizabeth ca 1727, Joseph 1730-1738, Mary 1734, Judith 1737-ca 1802 and Joseph ca 1740. It is quite possible that I may have assigned parents to children incorrectly as there is no way to determine this with certainty. With so many of the Smith families have same names and naming children the same all at the same time it is a bit of a nightmare trying to sort them out. However I am fairly sure of the John Smith/Mary Churchman having Judith as a daughter as they are my 6xgt-grandparents. Judith married Robert Buxey and their daughter Judith married Richard Cooper in 1786. I also have in my database: Abraham married at St. Mary 15 on Jul 1794 to Hannah Dore with James bapt. 13 Sep 1795 and Dinah married at St. Mary on 20 Aug 1789 to John Harmsworth with John bapt. ca 1800 who may be siblings of George Vince. --- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software Main Family Names in HAM are: Kingsclere: BUTLER, COOPER, FISHER, FOSTER, GIRDLER, HAWKINS, SMITH Hazeley Heath: BARKER, CHANDLER, LEWINGTON, NEVILL(E) Main Family Names in GLA are: GRIFFITH, HOPKINS, JENKINS, LEWIS.
