    3. Hello Paula, I have looked at the 1851 Census Index for Reading, for the Newbury area and the Thatcham area, no sign of any of your family with any of the spellings. I have also looked at Kingsclere and the 26 villages. I did find in the 1851 Census for Baughurst HENSLAR Betsey age 1 born Steventon Daniel age 7 born Ewhurst Elizabeth age 51 born Ewhurst Elizabeth age 22 " " Hannah age 3 born Steventon Jane Ettie age 27 born Ewhurst Regards Barbara Mallyon Basingstoke, Hants, UK BarbaraMallyon@lewmal.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: Paula Patterson To: BarbaraMallyon@lewmal.co.uk Sent: Friday, November 08, 2002 10:36 PM Subject: 1851 census for Berkshire Barbara I don't suppose you would be kind enough to look for the name HENSLER/HENSLAR in the 1851 census for Berkshire? I have some children born to Daniel & Matilda HENSLER in the 1850s and 1860s in Reading. I also have several missing siblings of Daniel and as the general trend had been to move northwards I wondered if others might have strayed over the county boundary. If you could look for me I would be very grateful. Paula in Montreal PS I've also seen the name transcribed as HASLER, HENSLOW, HENSHAW, HEUSLER & HEUSLAR in my searches!!

    3. Hi Everyone, Yesterday I was looking through some baptism registers and came across a note in the margin that is very hard to read and what I could make out is unfamilar to me. I was wondering if someone might be able to shed some light on it. Date: 20th Oct 1862 Burghclere Name: Taylor George son of Parents: Jane Benham (no father listed) Occupation: (none listed) Abode: Burghclere Francis C Fosbury Curate. The note in the margin looked like Poorhouse Baptism, the poor was very clear but the rest of the word wasn't. Is there such a thing as a poorhouse baptism and if so what is it. If I have the right person, it would appear that Jane's husbane had died over 12 months before this child was baptised, would that have anything to do with it? Any help is very much appreciated. Margaret, N.S.W., Australia.
