    3. This is really for Jenny Beaumont but I don't seem to have her email address but also for any Miles researcher. Jenny is interested in Charlotte Miles whose parents were Mathew and Hannah. What I misssed from my earlier email is that the 1851 census has him age 50. I hadn't previously found a suitable Mathew born in Kingsclere but this is an earlier dob than I had before and makes it possible he was actually born a couple of years earlier still and was the son of William Miles and Mary Withers and baptised at St. Mary on 20 May 1798. The only other Mathew in my database was born ca1770 which is far too early. --- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software

    3. Ecchinswell Residents vote to Change their Parish Name. Bishops Green village has grown in the last 40 years to be, by far, the largest settlement in the Parish of Ecchinswell and Sydmonton. For quite some time now the residents of Bishops Green have been asking the Parish Council to recognise this fact and include the name of Bishops Green in the Parish title. This re-naming was also in line with the Parish Council's and the Borough's aim of giving Bishops Green a higher and better profile. However, the Parish Council did not want to lose the name of "Sydmonton" as this name goes back to the Domesday Book and so it was decided that it should be kept in the title. In a recent Parish Poll, residents of Ecchinswell & Sydmonton Parish Council voted to change their Parish Name to include Bishops Green in the title. The new Parish Name will now be Ecchinswell, Sydmonton & Bishops Green Parish Council. Here is the result of the vote, which was carried out by the Electoral Reform Services. you will see that almost 44% of Parish residents voted, which was a fairly high return. --- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software

    3. Hi All, I've had a major brick wall for ages, with my 4x Gt G/father David Tull who was born about 1766 probably at Aldermaston. I hope that I can get the brick wall sorted this new year! Is there an index of the 1841 &1851 census' of Hampshire? Would sks please do a lookup of the 1851 census of Hampshire? He is *not* on the Tadley census in 1851 (that's where his son lived at that time). David may have died before 1851, I assume that David was still alive for the 1841 census as his name is on his son's 1843 marriage certificate. This certificate has no mention of either father being 'deceased'. My David Tull is *not* on the Berkshire 1851 census. I have no way of accessing the 1841 census of Berks or Hants to find out if David was alive then as I live in Australia, and the Berks 1841 census index is not in this part of our country. David is very elusive, all I have is his marriage at Bramley in 1791 to Lydia Pearce and 6 of their 10 children; baptised at Tadley Independent Chapel. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. 3. Further to Barbara's list, the Presbyterian Historical Society Library became the United Reformed Church History Society Library. The library is no longer at 86 Tavistock Place, London WC1. It has been transferred to Westminster College, Madingley Road, Cambridge. The archives relate mainly to former Presbyterian churches. Marriage registers have been sent to the relevant County Record Offices. Some have been filmed by the LDS. A few baptism registers are held, but these will also be sent to County Record Offices in due course. All known registers of Nonconformist and Catholic churches in Hampshire are listed in "National Index of Parish Registers Volume 8 Part 6 - Hampshire and the Isle of Wight" by Alan McGowan (who?). The book was published by the Society of Genealogists in 2001, but the Society seems to have sold out. I don't know if a reprint is planned. Some Hampshire libraries have copies. Alan McGowan P.S. Going to Bracknell on Sunday? See you at the Romany & Traveller FHS stall.

Good morning everybody, As some of you know my connection with Kingsclere area is firstly the STOCKER family and secondly an elusive Ann BRIDGEMAN whose baptism I have yet to discover, probably about 1740, who later married at East Woodhay. However, my enquiry concerns a brass plate that is affixed to the floor of the Royal Oak pub at Ecchinswell; that village is where the STOCKER family lived late 1700s and early 1800s. The wording on the plate is as follows:- Stan " Stocker" Stacey stood here. I am sure that someone on the list will know the significance of the wording and also all about the person concerned. I would be grateful to know all about it please. Cheers for now, Rod Whale in a damp and overcast Andover.
