Hello Barbara, Thank you for the information on FREDRICK BREWER, I don't know if this is the one I am looking for as the details I have been given are that he lived at the DELL IN KINGSCLERE most of his life if not all of it, so the FREDRICK BREWER who died in the MARCH quarter of 1956 in KINGSCLERE is more likely to be the one and do you have any details of this burial. I am sorry to be a nuisance Barbara but when you have the time could you please look up the following burial and marriage , BURIAL ALFRED ALDRIDGE died in 1869 -1871 in KINGSCLERE. MARRIAGE THOMAS SMITH to a MYRA ELIZABETH ALDRIDGE in 1887 in KINGSCLERE. Many thanks Charlie Rodgers.

Hi all, I am new to the list and this is my first post. Thanks to John Lewis and Barbara Mallyon for your help. My 3x grandfather was Jacob Smith (wheelwright) who lived near Plastow Green and was married to Ann WHEELER in 1821. They had a son James (a carpenter) in 1823 who later lived at Hannington. James married SARAH GARRETT of Hannington. The 1851 census suggests Jacobs dob to be c 1798. My great grandfather George SMITH farmed at Manor farm North Oakley after the TWITCHEN family. Can anybody tell me when the Twitchens gave up the farm? They still have it in the 1891 census. There are links between the Hannington SMITHS and late 19th century SMITHS in Baughurst when SMITH married SMITH. The families mainly moved up the social scale and became farmers and the SMITHS and ALLENS had many of the farms around Hannington, Ibworth, Baughurst, Wotton and Oakley. KENTS farmed around Wotton,Ramsdell and Baughurst. Jacob SMITH is currently one of my brickwalls. If anybody has any infomation that would be super and if I can help with the second half of 19th century ALLENS, SMITHS, or KENTS, only to pleased so to do. William ALLEN from Deane married Ellen ALLEN from Tadley, in the next generation Ellen Gertrude ALLEN married Frederick KENT and then in the following generation Lena Ellen KENT married Thomas SMITH. For anybody interested in the name POVEY, they might like to note there is a POVEYS Farm at Stoney Heath near Ramsdell. My mother was born there in 1924 (Vera Ellen Smith). Best wishes, Nigel Gerdes (Bradford on Avon)
Hello Barbara Can you look up a burial for me to see if it was in Kingsclere Rose Robinson, buried 1918 aged about 29 lived at Pit Hall Farm. Regards Peter Goff

One of the Chedworth films has arrived and I've been to look at it today. Banns and marriages from 1754 to 1954, burials from 1811-66. I've checked through to 1900 as I didn't see any point in going any further. I'll post the MILES/MILLS entries and see what you can make of them & I'll do the same with the second film when it arrives. There is a high proportion of partners from other parishes (an average of at least one per page in the earlier years), some from Wiltshire, Warwickshire, Berkshire & Glamorgan. I have a little more information on some of the marriages (whether signed or marked, witnesses, fathers, etc). Burials are in a separate message. It's quite likely that the MILLS entries could be MILES - the spelling is very erratic even in the later entries. Hello! This is a repeat of plea for help made to the list some two weeks ago. "On the 1881 census for Kingsclere, Sarah LANGLEY, a married woman, aged 33, born in Longham, Norfolk, is listed as domestic servant in the household of George MILWARD, J.P. (RG11/1266/98/12). I would be interested to learn if Sarah is listed at Kingsclere 1891 - or if anyone knows what may have become of her. Is there no one with access to the 1891 census for Kingsclere who would be prepared help? Stan Langley - West Norfolk (U.K.) Principal Interests: JICKLING, LANGLEY, RICHMOND, WAD(DE)LOW.
