Hello Valerie I have been looking for marriage of George and Ann Edwards but so far haven't spotted it. Do you know where and when they married? She is recorded as Ann Edwards Buckeridge with George & Harriet Buckeridge when witnessing the marriage of Caroline and John Savery. I cannot see a baptism for George jnr. either, were these Methodist marriages/baptisms by any chance? I would like any information you may have to add to what has already been said on this list today about the Savery/Buckeridge families. -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software

    1. Buckeridge/ Savery marriage
    2. Hi John, I must admit that I do not have a Cert. for the marriage of George BUCKERIDGE & Ann Edwards SAVERY but it is on LDS/IGI. Ann Edwards SAVERY is witness at the wedding of her brother Joseph to Hannah GODDARD in Basingstoke 1842. Her brother Henry SAVERY( b, 1826) was also a witness. I have this cert. This is the Henry that married Mary Ann POOLE in 1852, and later Louisa YOUNG ( Butler) and served as Parish Clerk from abt 1872- 1911. Louisa YOUNG also witnessed the marriage of the other, younger Henry, Henry Thomas SAVERY to Eliza BUTLER in 1880. His father was James John SAVERY. Her father Charles BUTLER. I have this cert. also. The two Henry's were cousins. I think that we will eventually sort out this spaghetti! Valerie

I think Buckridge should really be Buckeridge, she was a dau of Isaac and Elizabeth Buckeridge and born about 1819 although I cannot see a baptism in Kingsclere. Possibly born or baptised Thatcham as that was where her mother was born. > Burial: 12.12.1840 Maria BRIDGMAN - [thank you Barbara] She died in George Street, where she was born. > > Marriage: 26.11.1842 Stephen BRIDGEMAN [Wid] = Kezia FOSTER > [sp]. Agree this date. Witnesses were George Parker (who witnessed marriage of Stephen & Maria) and Harriet? Mary? Pettifer? (am having to guess at this as the writing is very small and nearly unreadable on the fiche) > Burial: 29.8.1862 Stephen BRIDGEMAN - [Carol has Aug 1860] I too had date as 3 Aug 1860 at Coleridge Farm (register entry 587), but this Stephen is aged 78. The entry for 29 Aug is for a Stephen Bridgman age 47 (entry 656) so I am amending my data to the 1862 date for Kezia's husband. I had the register entry number correctly recorded as source so must have been suffering from old age when I typed 1860. This is of course the date of his father's burial. > Married: 8.8.1862 James MILES [b] Pensioner = Kezia BRIDGMAN > [Wid]. - [comment to follow below]. Either the wrong info was > given to the Enumerator or the Enumerator got it wrong or > Richard had his surname changed by the family or....... This one had me confused too, I think I'll go along with Barbara's conclusion that Richard Miles is in fact Richard Bridgman son of Mary Bridgman. I expect they just said 'my grandson Richard' and the enumerator assumed the surname Miles. Finally I'll mention that Kezia died at Kingsclere Marsh and was buried at St. Mary, on 29 July 1902 aged 81 years. She was the youngest daughter of John Foster and Sarah Cooper and was born just 2 months after her father's death. She is not mentioned in his will. Sarah re-married in 1827 and so lost the weekly pension of 10/- a week she had been left in John's will. -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software

    1. Paice Family.
    2. Hello All, I joined the list several months ago, but this is the first time I've posted. I hope this isn't going to be too long winded & bore everyone, but I'd like to give the reasons why I think the Paice family belongs in my tree! In 1794 my 5x great grandmother married Thomas Brazyer in Whitchurch. Her name at the time was Sarah Quelch. When we looked up the marriage at the Society of Genealogists we discovered that she was a widow. Looking further back (1783) we found the marriage of a Sarah Butcher to Thomas Quelch, however there also she was a widow. I found a marriage of a Sarah Paice to John Butcher in Kingsclere on the IGI and checked for any other family members. Sarah Paice had brothers called Thomas, George & Abraham. Sarah & Thomas Quelch had sons called Thomas, George & Abraham. John Butcher was buried in Whitchurch (from the Hampshire Burial CDs) in 1782, so that also fits with the marriage of Sarah Butcher to Thomas Quelch. Finally Sarah Brazyer was also on the Hampshire Burial Index and was buried in Hannington in 1822 which made her age 70, the same age as Sarah Paice. I think that I can be as sure as I'm ever going to be that Sarah Paice is "my" Sarah. I have copies of all 3 of her marriages. The tree I constructed is from the IGI, so I'm hoping that there is someone out there who has this family in their tree and could confirm any of this: William Paice married Joan, Kingsclere. 2 children known: William Paice bap 24 Oct 1670, Kingsclere. John Paice bap 10 Apr 1675, Kingsclere. William married Elizabeth. 5 children known: Elizabeth Paice bap 20 Nov 1704, Kingsclere. William Paice bap 4 Dec 1706, Kingsclere. Married Sarah Baughurst 8 May 1735, Kingsclere. John Paice bap 27 Nov 1708, Kingsclere. Thomas Paice bap 9 Dec 1711, Kingsclere. James Paice bap 30 Jan 1714, Kingsclere. Thomas married Elizabeth. 7 children known: William Paice bap 8 Feb 1740, Sidmonton, Kingsclere. James Paice bap 17 Apr 1743, Sidmonton, Kingsclere. Jonathan Paice bap 7 Dec 1746, Sidmonton, Kingsclere. Abraham Paice bap 9 Oct 1745, Sidmonton, Kingsclere. (more on him below) George Paice bap 22 July 1750, Sidmonton, Kingsclere. Sarah Paice bap 29 July 1752, Sidmonton, Kingsclere. Amy Paice bap 12 Dec 1756, Sidmonton, Kingsclere. Abraham married Rachel Colborne, 18 July 1773, Kingsclere. 7 children known: Rachel Paice bap 6 Mar 1774, Kingsclere. Elizabeth Paice bap 14 July 1776, Kingsclere. Amy Paice bap 29 Apr 1779, Kingsclere. Mary Paice bap 9 Apr 1780, Kingsclere. Abraham Paice bap 16 June 1782, Kingsclere. Thomas Paice bap 1 July 1787, Kingsclere. Anne Paice bap 24 Sept 1791, Kingsclere. Hope this hasn't been too long. Any info or new cousins gratefully received ;-) Best wishes to all Sharon.

My haven't recorded my source for her maiden name nor do I have a place of marriage. I have recorded their children as James Joseph, John and Richard. James married Ann Edwards and had Henry born about 1826 (1851 census and age at second marriage) in North Oakley, Hants and Joseph born April 1846, buried 14 Sept 1846 at St. Mary, Kingsclere Henry was to become a Surveyor, Land Measurer & Parish Clerk. He married first Mary Ann Poole about 1852, She was born about 1812 in Sezincote, Glos and died Jan 1887 in George Street, Kingsclere. Buried at st. Mary on 29 Jan 1887. Henry then married LOUISA Butler on 2 July 1888 at St. Mary. Louisa was born about 1848 to Charles & Deborah (Cook) Butler. She was widow Young when she married Henry. Witnesses at the marriage were Henry Thomas Savery & Elizabeth Hewlett Miles. I can find no further records for Henry & Louisa in kingsclere. The second son of James and Maria, Joseph, I have recorded as a Tailor, who married Hannah Goddard on 17 Aug 1842 at Basingstoke. I have only one child Ann born about 1843 in Ollife Shipton, Glos. My source for this family is V Pickard and the 1851 census index. Their third son, as you say below, was John > | > | Their son a John Savery b.1808 m. 20 Aug 1849 at Kingsclere > to Caroline Buckeridge (date of birth unknown) having > previously been married to Rebecca Emmams about 1835 with their > daughter Ann Rebecca born 1837 in Kingsclere. I had his wife as Caroline but have not recorded a marriage date so the maiden name Buckeridge was new to me. I have now found the marriage entry and can confirm the details you gave, witnesses were George Buckeridge, Ann Edwards Buckeridge & Harriet Buckeridge. John was a shoemaker & widower. Father James said to be a woodman. Caroline's father Isaac Buckeridge was a carrier. I have nothing further on the Buckeridge/Buckridge family > |Children of John and Caroline Savery John James, born about 1850 in George Street, bapt. St. Mary on 2 Mar 1850. Before she married Albert Miller she seems to have had two illegit children by an unknown Hadley, Agnes Annie Hadley Savery bapt. 5 Aug 1877 and Ada Kate Savery bapt. 4 Jul 1880. I have recorded 3 children of the marriage, Ernest John Miller, born George Street and bapt. 4 Dec 1892, Emma Elizabeth, born George Street, bapt. 6 August 1893, St. Mary. Died on 7 Aug 1893, George Street, Kingsclere, Buried in Aug 1893 - St. Mary. Beatrice Maud, born George Street, bapt. 5 Sep 1897, St. Mary so Poppy and Edith must be two more children. I will have another look in the baptisms to see if I can find them. | Henry Thomas b. 1859 m Mary Ann Poole then m.1880 a Louisa Butler b.1858. Both buried in Kingsclere. Henry Thomas was variously Coachman, Groom and Gardener. He was bapt. 15 May 1859 at St. mary. I have his marriage to ELIZA Butler on 23 Nov 1880, witnesses John James Savery & Louisa Young. Eliza's parents were Charles Butler and Deborah Cook so she was a sister of the Louisa who married Henry. Children of Henry Thomas and Eliza were: Louisa Jessie, born Swan Street, bapt. 23 Oct 1881, St. Mary Sarah Jane, born Swan Street, bapt. 25 Feb 1883, St. Mary Lisa Annie, born Swan Street, bapt. 1 Aug 1886, St. Mary Percy Harry, born on 19 June 1889, Ecchinswell, bapt. 4 Aug 1889, St. Mary Beatrice Mary, born Swan Street, bapt. 31 Jul 1895, St. Mary Winifred Amy, born Swan Street, bapt. 2 Jun 1899, St. Mary > | Richard Edward b. 1861 m. Born on 2 April 1864, George Street, Kingsclere, bapt. on 5 June 1864 - St. Mary, Kingsclere. His actual date of birth isn't recorded in the baptism register so I had him as born about June 1864. I have no further information on Joseph Charles. I don't as yet have this family recorded on the 'Kingsclere Families' website but it should be there if only for the long involvement of this family with St. Mary as Parish Clerks and Sextons. 2. I'm hoping to go to the BRO in the next few weeks. I need to look at some of the Thatcham registers so I will keep a look out for the Miles/Withers marriage. In the meantime I don't know if you are aware, but a lot of the Thatcham records are already on the IGI (this marriage included). Hugh Wallis has a very useful website which enables the IGI to be searched by parish. It's all done by batch numbers and focuses only on the records which were extracted from the registers (thus excluding all those dodgy user-submitted records). A quick search on this site reveals that there were quite a few Withers baptisms and marriages in Thatcham, though only the one Miles marriage. Hello Les I have the following Elmer Parsons, born about 1799, Kingsclere, died in April 1870, Ashford Hill, buried on 14 April 1870, St. Paul, Woodlands (age at death: possibly 71 years old). Married on 30 June 1831, St. Mary, Kingsclere, to Julia Tyler, born about 1806, died in November 1850, Woodlands, buried on 6 November 1850, St. Paul, Woodlands (age at death: possibly 44 years old), with Ann, born on 25 July 1833, Ashford Hill, baptized on 21 August 1833, St. Mary, Kingsclere, died in October 1848, Woodlands, buried on 24 October 1848, St. Paul, Woodlands (age at death: 15 years old). John, born about 1835, Kingsclere, Farm Bailiff (1881). Married about 1865 to Keturah ?, born about 1837, Kingsclere, with William, born about 1868, Kingsclere. Neal, born about 1869, Kingsclere. Elizabeth, born about 1840, Kingsclere, died in January 1868, Ashford Hill, buried on 25 January 1868, St. Paul, Woodlands (age at death: possibly 28 years old). Sarah, born about 1842, Kingsclere. Married on 20 June 1868, St. Paul, Woodlands, to Charles Lewington, born before 1847, Engineer. Eliza, born about April 1842, died in October 1842, Ashford Hill, buried on 21 October 1842, St. Mary, Kingsclere (age at death: possibly 6 months old). Martha, born about 1845, Kingsclere. The Letitia born about 1839 looks like a good match for your Letitia. I have not been able to find parents for Elmer in Kingsclere and I haven't tried tracing Julia Tyler's parents as yet. I have a family interest in the Parsons surname with two of the Sarah Fosters (aunt and niece) in my tree marrying a Peter Parsons, one in 1796 and the other in 1813. Tracing descendants of both Peter's has proved difficult and I suspect they may have emigrated. -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software

    3. Barbara, Carol, Susan, Uncle Tom..... Thank you Barbara re. the James MILES = Kezia BRIDGMAN Marriage. I had transcribed Kezia as Maria - at least I had the "ia" - and this mistook has solved the mystery - but a query still exists - more of this later in this looooong E Mail. Looking through some researching done many moons ago on the BRIDGEMAN lineage by a long standing F.H. Correspondent [since 1983 - he is not on the Internet unfortunately] I came across a note he had made against the Marriage of Stephen BRIDGMAN [who was listed with his siblings under their parents] = Maria BUCKRIDGE - it reads "There are more marriages". When I turned to his Notes he had written down the Marriage of Stephen to Kezia FOSTER - I had overlooked this when entering into my F.Tree Maker - very amiss of me. As I had Maria BRIDGMAN married to James MILES I thought it was this Maria BUCKRIDGE but having found the Stephen/Kezia marriage all was now clear. So, this is how I now see it:- Marriage: 17 Oct 1840 Stephen BRIDGMAN [b] = Maria BUCKRIDGE [sp]. Burial: 12.12.1840 Maria BRIDGMAN - [thank you Barbara] Marriage: 26.11.1842 Stephen BRIDGEMAN [Wid] = Kezia FOSTER [sp]. Burial: 29.8.1862 Stephen BRIDGEMAN - [Carol has Aug 1860] Married: 8.8.1862 James MILES [b] Pensioner = Kezia BRIDGMAN [Wid]. - [comment to follow below]. Burial: 12.7.1886 James Miles. Census 1861: Stephen BRIDGEMAN [45], wife Kezia [39], children George [17], Ellen [12], Eliza [10] & Mary [7]. Census 1881: James MILES [60], wife Keziah [59] & Grandson Richard MILES [9] Scholar born Kingsclere. James & Kezia MILES had a son Henry Baptised 17 July 1864 and who was Buried on 5 Oct 1869 at Kingsclere. Re Census 1881: I cannot find a Richard MILES Baptised cir. 1871 and as Henry died in 1869 how come James & Kezia have a Grandson Richard MILES. Is he a BRIDGEMAN and son of Stephen & Kezia's son George - or is he the son of their daughter Mary. Mary BRIDGMAN was a Witness at the Marriage of James MILES & Kezia. Stephen also had a sister named Mary. Carol has found a Baptism of a Richard BRIDGMAN to Mary BRIDGMAN on the 4 May 1871 - is this this Richard MILES. Either the wrong info was given to the Enumerator or the Enumerator got it wrong or Richard had his surname changed by the family or....... Finally. Although Barbara has confirmed the year of Marriage of James MILES = Kezia BRIDGMAN as 1862 I feel that this must be 1863 as Stephen was Buried 29 Aug 1862 [Barbara please confirm] so Widow Kezia married James 8 Aug 1862 before Stephen had died!! I feel the year entry in the Parish Register must be incorrect. The researching in my Note Book goes as follows - I am not showing all the details written down: 7.9.1862 Jesse HARRIS = Mary Ann ROLFE. 12.7.1863 George PROUT = Charlotte WYTHE. 8.8.1862 James MILES = Kezia BRIDGMAN - [my Maria amended] 30.4.1864 Enos SMITH = Mary ALDRIDGE. When I was following the Register through how come I have an 1862 between 1863 & 1864. It is only in recent weeks I have noticed this - the year in the Register must be incorrect. My case rests!!! - and I must get on with other lines - its all been very interesting though and how we should all take care, check other peoples researching and please do not take the I.G.I. as Gospel and thank goodness for Websites like this one. By the way Barbara - Witness at the Marriage of John MILES = Ann PIPER on 13 Oct 1829. I think you will find it is Joseph SEWARD not SERVANT - he was Witness to several Marriages at this time I am off to the Society Of Genealogists Fair tomorrow and hope to find Gloucestershire F.H. Society there, although they are not listed on the Leaflet printed some time ago - see what they have to say about Chedworth. Denis

    1. Re: Kingsclere marriage
    2. Hooray, We link in to the Kingsclere 'net' of families. Caroline BUCKERIDGE, (witness to this marriage, sister to Maria, father Isaac,) went on to marry John SAVERY, a widower with one daughter, Ann, in 1849. ( I have copy of marriage cert) John Savery was younger brother of James SAVERY who was mygt gt gt grdfthr. James' daughter Ann Edwards SAVERY, later went on to marry George BUCKERIDGE. And she appears on the 1851 census as Ann BUCKERIDGE with baby George, aged 2. I have other Buckeridge/ Savery info if anyone has an interest. Valerie

    3. Barbara, How sad, then she really did die early! I can't remember but, do you have the burials for Kingsclere, is this Stephen Bridgman in there, he should have died around 1860? Thank you for the info.
