I have the following Grigg entries for Kingsclere St. Mary Ann ca 1769-1827 married 26 Dec 1789 to Robert Stevens ca 1767, witnesses: Stephen & Mary Grigg. Ann born Ecchinswell Elizabeth married 28 Nov 1791 to Jeoffrey Webb, witness: Mary Grigg Mary married 16 May 1793 to John Blackman, witnesses: John Grigg and Elizabeth Webb Stephen married 9 Sep 1793 to Hannah White, witnesses: Mary Walker? & E??? Jacob? (almost unreadable). Stephen was of Wolverton. Although Ann was 'of Ecchinswell' at marriage and baptised there there seems to be a link with Stephen, Elizabeth and Mary with them being witnesses at each others weddings. The only John here, as a witness, could be the father of the John at Ruislip. -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software

    2. John Lewis
    3. I just though I'd let you know I have been working on my 'Kingsclere Families' website and think I have sorted out the re-design. It now has the beginnings of a Picture Gallery too. You can have a look at the site at http://www.startx.co.uk/ Feedback on how it looks will be appreciated. I have tested it with most modern browsers but anyone using Netscape 4.* will not see the picture gallery as I intend it to look. I haven't tested any version of IE older than 5.* either. You would be better off upgrading these older browsers anyway if your system can run them. I still have the old site running but hopefully this will be shut down in the near future. A lot of the family trees on it are quite out-of-date and it isn't worth keeping both sites updated. -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software

    3. Hello all Has anyone lost a John GRIGG born around 1791, whilst reading through a book on Ruislip, Middlesex I have found a reference to him as originating from Wolverton. He was apparently connected with the church in Ruislip for nearly 40 years, as parish clerk, assistant overseer and church warden; he died in 1868. 3. My friend and I are trying to solve this mystery, can you help us at all. My friend's email address is JamesMaybrick_is_JacktheRipper@yahoogroups.co.uk ADVICE ON SEARCHING FOR THE FAMILY OF FLORENCE MAYBRICK NAMELY HER SON SHE HAD WITH HENRY STANLEY FLINN. HE WAS BORN 1879 IN LIVERPOOL. Florence Maybrick was the wife of James Maybrick who was Jack the Ripper. Florence had an illegitimate son with Henry Stanley Flinn, who was a Ship Owner from Liverpool. He owned the Dominion and Mississippi Steam Ship Line. Florie named this child William, when he was born. Florie then had the baby adopted by MR AND MRS GRAHAM of Hartlepool Durham. As Henry Stanley Flinn is my husband's 4 cousin, I would very much like to trace the family but I don't know how to go about it. I have written to Anne E Graham, who is mentioned in the Book JACK THE RIPPER - THE FINAL CHAPTER. In fact, she helped to write the book, but she couldn't tell me where to go from where I have got to in my research. I wonder whether you could help me or not? I have found him on the 1881 census, and also the 1901 census. Now I would like to come forward and trace his family, as they are my husband's relations. 3. Joe, The Hampshire List would be more appropriate for this query. See http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/ENG/HAMPSHIRE.html Bramshaw was partly in Wiltshire and partly in Hampshire until 1895, when the whole parish transferred to Hampshire. The registers are at Hampshire Record Office. Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office has Bishops' Transcripts for Bramshaw and a microfilm copy of the registers. Bramshaw is in the Diocese of Salisbury, so wills and other Diocesan Records relating to the parish are at WSRO. The registers have been filmed by the LDS. 1. Matilda and Mary Anne TIDBURY
    2. I have some more information about Matilda Tidbury, wife of Boxer Hutchins, which I thought I would post to the list as she appears in the tree of some of the Hutchins researchers. Matilda's birth was registered in the December quarter of 1869 in the Kingsclere Registration District: Matilda Lavinia C Tidbury 2c 228. (Somebody gave me a GRO reference for June which was incorrect.) Here is the full entry for Matilda from the 1891 census: 10 Church Street, Basingstoke, county of Southampton Albert Betterworth Head M 55 Grocer Hants Horndean Jane A Betterworth Wife M 36 London Kate H Betterworth Daughter, 9, Scholar, Hants Aldershot Lillie Betterworth, daughter, 7, scholar, Gibraltar, Bristol subject Leslie Betterworth, Son, 5, Scholar, Hants Basingstoke Winifred Betterworth Daughter 3 Hants Basingstoke Herbert S King Assistant S, 22 Grocers Assistant Berks Maidenhead Matilda L C Tidbury Servant S 21 General servant Hants Ecchinswell Here is the full entry from the 1871 census: Bishops Green Mary Ann Tidbury H Widow 38 Dressmaker Ecchingswell Hants Mary Ann Tidbury Dau 8 Scholar Sydmonton Matilda L Tidbury Dau 1 Ecchingswell [N.B. For Mary Ann senior she was initially described as Unmarried. This was crossed out and widow written above it. 'Illegitimate' was written next to Mary Ann junior but again had a line through it.] Matilda's sister Mary Anne Tidbury was born on 15th February 1863 in Sydmonton, Hampshire (no father's name recorded on the birth certificate). She was baptised as Mary Anne Victoria Tidbury on 3rd June 1874 at St Nicholas's Church, Newbury. In the 1881 census she appears as Mary A V Tidbury, a general servant living at Mouse Field Farm, Shaw cum Donnington, Berkshire. By 1901 she has disappeared.
