Hello list, I've just found the following for sale on Ebay.co.uk and thought that it may be of interest to someone. To Air Mechanic 3rd Class 296651 S.T (special training) Reginald Weston Smith Royal Air Force who died on Thursday 3rd of October 1918 age 18, Son of the late George and Maria Smith of Wellington terrace, Kingsclere. Death Plaque in good condition nice colour and is the only man of this name on CWGC or SDGW. If anyone may have any officer plaques for sale or might be listing 1 in the near future, I would be very great full if you would let me know, also you may find that there are some more R W Smith’s on CWGC but if you have the SDGW CD you can cross reference them and you will find out this is the only entry, if you find out different at a later date I will give you a total refund, Thanks Jack There is a photo on the site. Hello Dennis It looks like it could be Sarah Ann Prout married William Baughurst age 35 of Kingsclere Woodlands on 25 April 1885. Sarah was age 19 and gave father's name as George so this fits with her being a dau of George and Charlotte (Wythe). Witnesses were Henry Savery & Elizabeth Watts. William's father was given as Robert Baughurst, labourer. I have a William born Woodlands about Jul 1848 (bapt. St. Paul, Woodlands on 23 July 1848) to Robert Baughurst and Sophia Prout who seems to be a likely candidate allowing for him being a couple of years older than age given at marriage. Sarah's father and Sophia Prout were half-siblings so William &nd Sarah were cousins. I have recorded numerous children of this marriage but need to check my dates. -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software

Does anyone have an interest in this Kingsclere family who could help me with a small problem? I have been looking for the baptism of the John Aldridge who married Elizabeth Taylor in 1798. John died at Nutkins in March 1840 aged 70 years. This puts his birth around 1770 but I cannot see any baptism at St. Mary for him around this time. I have an earlier John, who married Mary Avelin (or Aveling) in Oct 1722. I have found five children so far for this couple but this only covers the period 1724-1737 so there is quite a gap before 1770. Possible siblings of this early John are Robert with wife Sarah and Thomas with wife Winifred. both had a child around 1813 then disappear from the register. Any help will be appreciated so I can update the Aldridge tree on the website. -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software Main Family Names in Kingsclere: BUTLER, COOPER, FISHER, FOSTER, GIRDLER, HAWKINS, SMITH
Hello Dennis, After a consultation with my spouse Roger, we agree it is the 30th September 1821 sorry about that, glad you checked. The witness Ann could be PRICHARD or ORCHARD, there was a William ORCHARD age 62 years living in Kingsclere in 1851 there were no PRICHARD'S. Ann's name was signed by a cross, her mark. Some of the microfiche cannot be read as the writing is so faint, other the writing is not always legible, so please, if you do not agree with anything that I send in messages, please query it. Hello Ann, Baptism of Richard son of Daniel and Elizabeth Arundell 3 June 1741 I have also found lots of other BATCHELOR baptisms. The microfiche for the 1600s is mostly for baptisms, I could not find the marriages that you wanted, partly due to the writing and the years that are not listed. I will keep looking. If you do go to the Hampshire Record Office in Winchester, have a look at the mustard coloured books where the baptism etc are already typed out and easy to read. When you get in the door face the end of the room, walk to wards the first metal book cases facing you on the right, I believe the second shelf from the bottom, you will find these books marked Kingsclere.
