John Many thanks for the marriage entry for Sarah Tidbury and William Kuell. I think this is definitely my Sarah as the witnesses, David and Phoebe Tidbury, are Sarah's brother and sister-in-law. I shall have a look at the Berkshire 1851 census index next time I go to the library. As you say the Kuells may well have crossed over the border into Greenham like so many of my Tidbury family. I shall see if I can find a record of the death of William Kuell's first wife in the Berkshire burial index. Many thanks for your help. Best wishes Debbie
Barbara Sorry I don't think I will be able to make the Kingsclere lunch. Hope you all have a good time. When you get a chance I would be most grateful if you could have a look at your Kingsclere fiches for the following marriage which I found on the IGI: Sarah TIDBURY and William KUELL on 24th May 1826 at Kingsclere I think this Sarah Tidbury might be the one in my tree who is the daughter of William Tidbury and Charlotte ANDREWS. Sarah had two illegitimate daughters, Eulah (Eglah?) and Hannah, born in 1822 and 1823 so if this is the right marriage then I presume that William Kuell is probably their father. Many thanks in advance. Best wishes Debbie Kennett

When purchasing the 1901 census entry for one of my family, Ellen Bellinger (nee Tidbury), I found on the same sheet a John Harding, retired shoemaker, born 1838 Kingsclere. He was living with his wife Harriet, daughter Annie Baker and two grandsons. If anyone is interested in John Harding and family let me know and I will send you a copy of the census image. Kingsclere. Hello Joan I have the following which may be of interest: Descendants of Martha Tigwell To the grandchildren. Martha Tigwell. Married on 10 November 1751, St. Mary, Kingsclere, to John Taylor, with Mary, born on 30 August 1752, Kingsclere, baptized on 7 October 1752, St. Mary, Kingsclere. Married on 17 October 1774, St. Mary, Kingsclere, to Joseph Shackelford, with Joseph. John, born possibly in February 1756, Kingsclere, baptized on 25 February 1756, St. Mary, Kingsclere. Elizabeth, born about May 1764, Kingsclere, baptized on 12 May 1764, St. Mary, Kingsclere. ************************************************************** Descendants of Mary Tigwell To the children. Mary Tigwell. Married on 1 July 1755, St. Mary, Kingsclere, to Joseph Rolfe, born about 1723, died about 1795 (age at death: possibly 72 years old), with Joseph, born about 1744, died on 12 September 1824, Kingsclere Dell, buried on 16 September 1824, St. Mary, Kingsclere (age at death: possibly 80 years old). Anne, born on 22 December 1745, Kingsclere, baptized on 7 January 1746, St. Mary, Kingsclere. Robert, born on 23 May 1753, Kingsclere, baptized on 27 May 1753, St. Mary, Kingsclere, died in January 1755, Kingsclere, buried on 20 January 1755, St. Mary, Kingsclere (age at death: 20 months old). Samuel, born about 1755, Kingsclere. Married on 18 April 1781, St. Mary, Kingsclere, to Sarah Moody, born about 1760, died in December 1835, Kingsclere Dell, buried on 9 December 1835, St. Mary, Kingsclere (age at death: possibly 75 years old). John, born about 1759, died in December 1834, Kingsclere Dell, buried on 10 December 1824, St. Mary, Kingsclere (age at death: possibly 75 years old). Married on 29 December 1779, St. Mary,Kingsclere, to Sarah Bennett, born in 1762, died in 1846 (age at death: 84 years old). I haven't listed all the Rolfe descendants as there are too many but they are probably on the 'Kingsclere Families' website ************************************************************** Descendants of Mary Tigwell To the children. Mary Tigwell, born about June 1815, Worting, baptized on 9 June 1816, Wootton St. Lawrence. Married on 17 October 1835, St. Mary, Kingsclere, to William Cooper, born about February 1805, Hannington, baptized on 24 February 1805, Hannington, buried, with William, born about 1839, Worting. James, born about 1840, Worting. Mary, born about 1841, Worting. Harriet, born on 2 June 1842, Worting, baptized on 3 July 1842, Worting, died about 1922 (age at death: possibly 80 years old). Married on 8 December 1866, Worting Parish Church, to Stephen Warwick, born about December 1842, Kingsclere, baptized on 17 December 1842, St. Mary, Kingsclere, died about 1910 (age at death: possibly 68 years old), Blacksmith. Jane, born possibly in 1846. Married on 16 June 1866, St. Mary, Kingsclere, to Thomas Worsfield. Ann, born in 1848, Kingsclere. David, born in 1850, Kingsclere. Again there are lots of descendants, but since she came from Worting may have no connection with your Tigwells. I'll have a look later at the registers to see if I can find your Richard. John Lewis
Dear Barbara & List, I have been reading your KINGSCLERE MARRIAGES with great interest, hoping for a mention of the name TIGWELL. My Husband's grandmother was Alice TIGWELL, born in Ufton, Berkshire, in 1862 to George Tigwell and Jane (BUSS). It has been fairly straightforward to establish the line until it may lead to Kingsclere; where in the 1851 Census there is JAMES TIGWELL, aged 57, a Woodman Carrier, born Ufton, his wife is Phoebe, aged 57, born, Hants, Kingston? I also have a 'note' of a marriage in Kingsclere from a contact in Australia which needs checking out: Richard TIGWELL to Elizabeth LAMPORT, 23 Dec 1712. Kingsclere. I would be grateful for any help from your great 'List'. Joan Vinall not very far away in Mortimer.
