Hants RO do have the registers, the Parish Register Transcription Society have put the BTs on fiche (now on CD) and HGS have published MIs 1645-1945 on fiche, this includes a plan of the churchyard indicating where the listed headstones were. This fiche also has MIs for the Church of the Ascension, (New) Burghclere, 1829-1987. -- John Lewis Debian (Sid) with the GeneWeb genealogy package

Legatees include: Grandsons and Granddaughters George WHALE, Mary WHALE, Sara WHALE and John WHALE, the sons and daughters of 'my daughter Mary WHALE, wife of George WHALE dec'd' £4 a pease [sic]. My 'loveing frind' James POORE of Crux Easton, Yeoman. My daughter Abigail the Wife of Thomas BECKLY during the term of her natural life one annuity by yearly sums of £4. Grandson John BECKLY £10. My daughter Elizabeth wife of James POORE One guinea. To said James POORE One guinea. This is not a will that is 'easy on the eye': hence my hesitancy to spend a great deal of time on transcribing via microfiche. Dorothy J.

    3. Judith I'm afraid there is little likelihood of learning more about this family as I note that at marriage on 25 [not 20] December 1720, Frances TANER [sic] was of the parish of Ashmansworth, and, as you should be aware, the PRs for that parish were destroyed in the village fire of 1811. The East Woodhay PRs are extremely difficult to decipher in the 18th Century and, in any event, the BLAKEs appear to have held copyhold leases of the Manor of Ecchinswell - including a parcel at Boccombe downe - bounding bondland in the Tithing of Ashmansworth. As you are aware that Frances had a son, Thomas TANNER, I assume you already have the details of her 1741 Will enrolled in the Ecchinswell Court Roll of 1776 at his behest? 3. Hello All, Are you watching TV BBC1 programme Heir Hunters a new Series today was the 1st of 5 daily programmes, this programme is well worth watching. (9.15am) What is it about, people who have died intestate and how genealogy helps to trace their families. Today's programme, a man who had died with out leaving a Will, he had one son, the father and his wife parted, his wife married again and the son was adopted by her new husband. The sons name was changed to the same name as his mother and her new husband. The law says that this son, because he was adopted by the mothers new husband, he was not legally entitled to a share in his fathers money that he left, the money went to the fathers sisters families. If the son had not been adopted he would had been entitled to all of the money that his father had left. Kind regards Barbara Lewis Mallyon Basingstoke, Hants. UK [email protected] List Admin

    1. Re: [King] HUNT
    2. Hi John and list, Yes, as we discussed a few months ago, this seems the most probable identification based on analysis of all the information we have available to us. On the same subject, I wonder about 'my' James - born about 1800, very approximately!. I originally thought the most likely parents were James and Elizabeth, and you have him down on your website as being theirs. However in view of what has since come to light about John Salter Hunt, the alternative baptism entry of James, s of Elizabeth Hunt and Daniel Tonant, has to be a possibility. Elizabeth could have given birth to JS, whose father John Salter did not marry her, then gone on to form a relationship with Daniel Tonant, who also failed to 'make an honest woman of her', and finally settled with John Pocock. Two points against this interpretation are: Elizabeth Hunt and her husband John Pocock had a son called James - would she have used the same name twice when the first was still alive? - and, if our James is this one, what happened to the son of James and Elizabeth?

Dorcas' sister Elsie May Hunt who married Percy William Little at St. Mary, Kingclere in 1925 also moved to the same area If you look at Brinley Treharnes ancestors you will see that his grandfather was called Mahershalalhashbaz. This is not a mistake!! It is a biblical name meaning: plunder speedeth; spoil hasteth.
