    1. [King] Joseph & Mary Ann Butler
    2. Bob Hutchins
    3. Hi list, I am hoping some one can help point me in the right direction on several points. I am trying to find out why a child's birth was registered in Kingsclere to a woman who has no kingsclere connections whatsoever. Alice Louisa Hayter was born London 1897 (Registered in Kingsclere). daughter of Sarah Jane Hayter and Lord ? Cabinet secetary to the Prime minister Marquis of Salisbury 3rd term. Sarah Jane born 1879 Moredon Wiltshire gave Alice to be adopted by Mary and Joseph Butler, of Kingsclere. Mary was a Monthly nurse. Sarahs Parents were Fanny Hurd born Crockerton Chapelry Warminster (1846) and her Father was Albert Hayter born at Longford Salisbury (Castle)(1846) Alice is in the Butler's household census 1901, but i cannot fathom out how they would have come by the child in the first place, or is there a local Lord to Kingsclere that was a civil servant at the time of Lord Salisbury's goverment (Possible Father) and could the Butlers have been employees in some way, and how would I find that out Alice went on to marry Charles oliver Lovelock brother of two of my Gt Uncles by marriage. It looks from the 1861 Census that Henry senior was born in Wiltshire at Sutton Benger? ca1809. The only Henry on the IGI is this one Henry Hull, Christening: 30 NOV 1809 Christian-Malford, , Wilts Parents: Father: Richard Hull, Mother: Elizabeth since google maps shows Christian Malford just a short distance away from Sutton Benger I suspect this is the Henry who was father of Henry James. > In 1894, he married his > cousin, Mary LAWRENCE, in Inkpen, Berks (BMD ref: Hungerford 2c / > 597); Mary was born in Inpken about 1866, baptized there 1866 > (I.G.I.), the eldest daughter of Richard LAWRENCE, farmer of Inkpen > Manor Farm. The IGI also has Mary: MARY <LAURENCE>, Christening: 26 AUG 1866 Inkpen, Berks Parents: Father: RICHARD LAURENCE Mother: SARAH ANNE I don't currently have any of this family in my database but as it is a family from within Kingsclere Registration District I'll be adding it. -- John Lewis Debian (Sid) with the GeneWeb genealogy package

    1. [King] FISHER family
    2. john lewis
    3. A couple of days ago I had an email from a lady in NZ which said amongst other things "I have a forebear, Robert Fisher born about 1806 in Kingsclere, a labourer who joined the army on 17 October 1826 and was stationed in India. He was married on 11 April 1837 to Harriet McAndrew at St John's Church Trichinopoly, India by Banns." This posed a slight problem in that I didn't have a Robert born in 1806 so I asked some questions and have come to the conclusion that Robert is actually Robin who was baptised on 29 Oct 1809 to Benjamin and Martha (Coe). The baptism entry notes he was born on 11 Oct 1806. This fits nicely with this bit of info: Burial: Kamptee 13 Sept 1841 Robert Fisher Pte HM 39th Regiment aged 34 years and 11 months at Kamptee (India Record Office & Library) Casualty Returns of 39th Regt. Foot (held at PRO Kew) 1279 Pte Robert Fisher Born at Kingsclere, Hampshire, Labourer, attested 17 Oct 1826 died at Kamptee 12 Sept 1841. 4-4-11 paid to his widow and children. No Prize Money No will Wife Harriet at Kamptee East Indies My guess is that he was know as Rob or Robbie and when he enlisted said he was Robbie Fisher and the recruiting sergeant entered his name as Robert. Robert had a couple of children and the son Robert George also joined the Army and eventually ended up in Ipswich where he died. One of his two daughters, Teresa, became a schoolteacher and emigrated to New Zealand in 1911 and is the grandmother of my correspondent. The family apart from the NZ ones are now on the website at http://startx.co.uk:2317/Kingsclere?i=1993. Teresa was a second cousin of my great-grandmother Esther Fisher and will be related to several other Kingsclere-listers with Fisher connections. -- John Lewis Debian (Sid) with the GeneWeb genealogy package

Frankly the offer at £45 is a try on. John's find seems much nearer true market value. The family historian may not be concerned about the condition of the book instead concentrating on the content. But for a book collector it has a huge impact on value. Regards, Nigel Gerdes

I found that Robert I may have been a Deacon in the First Church of Boston. I have found a lot of new sources detailing the life of Eleanor Jameson Williams Baker. One of the interesting letters from Jonathan II (Sr.) to Ben tells thanks Ben for sending a document that we now know as the Constitution, and describes some of Jonathan Wms' thoughts about this formation of our government.
