Well I did say I was related to nearly everyone! I will one day find I am related to my wife if Rod and I can find the link between us. My great-grandmother Esther Fisher had 10 siblings, 53 cousins, 5 second cousins, 3 third cousins, 88 fourth cousins and 145 fifth cousins My Grandfather Francis Cooper had 11 siblings, 33 cousins, 137 second cousins, 52 third cousins, 181fourth cousins and 450 fifth cousins my Mother Gwendoline Esther Cooper only had 3 siblings but had 43 cousins, 22 second cousins, 83 third cousins, 51 fourth cousins and 210 fifth cousins So you can see that lot was enough to populate Kingsclere between them :-) I am sorry I wasn't able to bring my laptop as usual but I now have a replacement, for the techies among you it is a Compaq Evo N160 and it cost me all of £40 but I need to spend as much again on upgrading the memory as it doesn't like loading acrobat reader to view the pdf files for things like Hampshire baptisms, marriage and burials. All being well it will last me for a few more years of Kingsclere Anniversary Lunches. -- John Lewis Debian (Sid) with the GeneWeb genealogy package

    2. Hi Barbara and all Sorry a very belated thank you, but only arrived back in Kent this evening after a visit to Winchester on the way home. So thanks to Barbara for organising the meal & Peter for the walk after lunch & good to meet others researching. Looking back found Sopers in George St, North St & Station Road (but no trains though!!). It was very nice to be able to get together around the horse shoe shaped table, where we could all chat to each other at the Crown Inn, in the room that was the former School and Court Room. It was very rewarding to know that the Lunch brought together for the first time, Bob HUTCHINS and Gerald SOPER, who share great grandparents. Nice to meet John his wife Joy and mum, my own family tree links in with John LEWIS at least 5 times, if not more and Rod Whale, we share 6th great grandparents with the BURGEMAN/BRIDGMAN family. Jim BATES living in New Zealand, no longer on the List, sent me a book he had put together about his life, it makes interesting reading, and is being read at the moment by Peter McNulty. Beryl Shackleton living in Scotland, brought along her laptop showing her SAVERY FT, she has the BUCKRIDGE family connection. Looking at my computer I discover the same family information coming down on one of the other daughters. Thanks Peter and Rita for the walk after Lunch, much enjoyed, we were luck with the weather. Peter said that after next years 7th Anniversary Lunch, Sunday 5th October 2008, he will take us to the Kingsclere Archives to do a bit of researching, could be interesting. 2. Jeff In some of the baptisms at St Pauls, Ashford Hill of my Hutchins ancestors in 1905 & 1906 their adress is recorded as Dairy House, Woodlands. In the 1901 census the family (Alfred George Hutchins etc) were living at Exmanford, but no house name given, but if it is the same house it is in Ashford Hill area. A Blanche Hutchins, different family, had her family address recorded as Dairy House Cottages on her baptism in 1911 at St Pauls, Ashford Hill. If anyone is interested let me know, I also found a birth record for Nelson Moore who links up with Ellen Sophia Bradley. BTW, John do you have a William Arthur Cooper in you tree, he was listed to be in the Kingsclere record office in 1941?? Two more random thoughts, on one of my cert's it makes reference to a May Cottage(probably in Ashford Hill or close by) and a Dairy House in Kingsclere does anyone have any ideas where/if these buildings still exist? Second thought is does anyone live near the Aldershot Museum or do I have to find a seperate list for them?? Jeff

    3. Hello All, How quickly the months are going, so here is a reminder about the Hampshire Record Office. Hampshire Record Office search room at Sussex Street will close towards the end of 2007 to enable us to merge with Local Studies, formerly in Winchester Library. Work is likely to start in November/December. Our service to the public will not close altogether: a microform service will be provided in a temporary location (almost certainly in the Library HQ building in North Walls after the Reference Library has moved to the new Winchester Discovery Centre) limited access to original documents will be provided at Hampshire Record Office (by appointment only) for legal and other essential purposes. If you have academic research deadlines to meet please contact us in advance so that we help to ensure that the reduced service does not hinder your timetable. see www.hants.gov.uk/record-office/catalog/index.html for up dates. 3. Hi Ann Using Hannah Swait, Tanhouse - shopkeeper, found her on 1861 census. Going to the enumerators description for Kingsclere district 7 he starts at Beenham Court and finishes at Headley via Holdop Farm, Tan House and Mill Green. It was on the Headley to Ashford Hill road just before the stream crossing. www.old-maps.co.uk Headley, Berkshire - co-ordinates 452600, 162600 you will find Tan House and Tan House Farm. 1871 census actually names Tan House - forwarded page off list Peter G

Hopefully this may be the one mentioned in the Will of one of my ARUNDELL ancestors whose Will quotes ............ Mother in Law enjoyed the day out as well. I gave her a quick tour of Kingsclere in her wheelchair but she specially liked the fact that on the way home I found 110 Worting Road, Basingstoke for her. She had lived there for a couple of years some 65 years ago as a result of Joy's father being assigned to work in the Thorneycroft ammunition factory. He didn't stay there long as his skill as a plasterer was then required for bomb damage work in Southampton. Rather than live in Southampton they moved to Bournemouth where his grandfather Enos Foot had lived for some time after moving there from Donhead St. Mary in Wiltshire. He too was a plasterer and eventually moved to Wimbledon where he and his brothers set up a Plastering contracting business. MinL often talks about the time she spent in Basingstoke.
