    3. Hello, I have some contradictions on Thomas Woodhouse. John's site says Jane Woodhouse who married William Watts was bap 2 Oct 1808 Hannington, dau of Isaac and Jane nee Cummings. The IGI, however, says she was dau of Thomas and Jane and bap 2 Oct 1807. Which is right? I suspect, John is, although Jane Cummins at age 47 would be a bit old to be having a child James Woodhouse in 1815. 3. Dear List, Please could anybody with easy access to burial records for All Saints Hannington, please help and check for a William Wix who died on 10 May 1842? I am helping somebody trace their family and together we have been able to trace Emily Woodhouse born 1832 Hannington to Thomas and Rebecca Woodhouse to MI, USA. She left England as a newly wed having married Charles Wix who was the son of William Wix (1782- 1842) who had farmed at Balstone Farm, Ibworth since 1825. Many thanks, Nigel

I have checked the baptism register (on fiche) and I think the IGI has transcribed it wrongly The name looks like RUDDLE to me, and in confirmation of this the Hants Bapt Index does not have a Henry Ruddle listed The Ruddle family is on the Kingsclere Families website here http://startx.co.uk:2317/Kingsclere?m=NG&n=Ruddle&t=N -- John Lewis Debian & the GeneWeb genealogical data server

I also appreciate your reference to the RUDDLE family on the Kingsclere Families website. The information provided for Henry is very comprehensive and the sources provide continuity from baptism, through marriage and death. Henry did not relocate to Kingsbury-Episcopi which is what would need to have happened for him to be my GGG Grandfather. I thank you for your interest and the wonderful detail you have offered. 3. The British library Colindale newspaper site lists newspapers published in the UK and  shows the years of publication.  If you can visit, many are available on microfilm with  a few as hard copies  only. Newbury Weekly News is available  on  microfilm at West Berks library, Newbury. If you are unable to visit, please contact me off list with details and I will look for you. 3. Gerald and list, For ca 1855, I would recommend taking a look at Jackson's Oxford Journal. Despite the title it covered a wide area. It is digitised and can be searched on a commercial information site, but you either have to have an account which is expensive (perhaps a local library could help) or wait until they have a limited period of free access. It seems to come up over Christmas as the favourite time to open it up to all. For Hampshire mid-19th century then either the Hampshire Chronicle, or the HampshireTelegraph and Southsea Chronicle. The later is digitised. I have never looked at the Newbury Journal, it was not digitised on the commercial website. As an alternative to the web or local library, Collingdale (British Museum) Newspaper Reading Room may still be open or replacement arrangements to access the BM's newspaper collection are now in place. 2. Don't forget that it is now possible to access the British Library's large digitised nineteenth-century newspaper collection online: http://newspapers.bl.uk/blcs There are various subscription options but if they have the right newspapers it might save money on travel costs. Debbie Kennett

    2. I am hoping to find details of a court case from about 1855, possibly in Newbury but could be Reading. As far as I can see Newbury Weekly News started 1867, Hants & Berks Gazzette in 1878. Has anybody any suggestions to any local papers at that time. It looks as though there may have been a Newbury Journal published from 1855 to 1856. Gerald Soper
