    3. Hello out there! The end of RootsWeb lists is just around the corner. If you want to make sure anyone reading the archives in future can find you, be sure to post your interests (surnames in all caps; first names, dates, and locations if you chose) and your munged email address to the RootsWeb lists to which you subscribe before 29 February. There are now hundreds of lists/groups on Groups.io that have moved from RootsWeb. You can search for a group at https://groups.io/ and then click on "Find or Create a Group." Many RootsWeb admins have added the word "RootsWeb" to the descriptions of their new groups, so if your first attempt doesn't find the right group, trying adding the keyword RootsWeb to your search. There's also a group just to announce new family research lists, RootsWeb Announce. Search the messages there to find a group. It's been a pleasure administering this list. I hope to see many of you on Groups.io or on the Ancestry/RootsWeb message boards. Take care and best of luck with your research. 3. Hi Hazel & list I seem to be related to dozens of Kingsclere families as the vast majority of my ancestors came from Kingsclere & surrounding villages, I'll send a separate email naming some of the families. They include William BUTLER (1773) & Maria LEACH (1772). At a quick look there's at least one other BUTLER family to which I'm linked by marriage of the siblings etc of my direct ancestors which is William BUTLER (1796) & Mary Ann GEORGE (1799). Hazel if you are linked to either of these BUTLER families then if you want more details of my findings it might be easier to contact me direct. This can be stopped by added a security plug-in to your browser. Then Facebook can only see what you do on Facebook. Nigel On 18/01/2020 15:29, Mike Hutchins wrote: > Yes, its now set-up. 3. Dear List Members, While I have been rather inactive in recent years on the list, I would like to thank everybody especially John L and the late Barbara M who has helped with the on-going quest of sorting out the SMITHs. North Hampshire has the highest concentration of SMITHs in the population of anywhere in the country. They were very well established and numerous at the time of the English Civil War and in fact provided shelter for the King overnight at Frobury Farm (between Ecchinswell and Kingsclere) before one of the Battles of Newbury. I still maintain a very large data base of 110,000 names around Kingsclere, the area and across into Berkshire. Since I had to take a 'do everybody' both  back and forward across the years to solve SMITH links I have large trees for many Kingsclere names and may well be able to tell you , for example, which John or Mary SMITH one of yours married. Since there were so many of them it is easy to get the wrong Joseph Smith. So if you want to contact me: My email is my Christian name at Surname with the suffix of .co.uk Best Regards to All, Nigel GERDES On 16/01/2020 19:50, Lynne wrote: > Hello all > > As posted previously, RootsWeb lists are closing. 1. [King] ADMIN - new Hampshire list on Groups.io
    2. Lynne
    3. Hello everyone Just wanted to let you know what I've found out about the Hampshire lists. Nigel, from Eng-Hampshire, has told me he's pointing all of his list members to Linda and Tony's new Groups.io list, Hampshire-England-genealogy at Groups.io. New members are welcome to join Hampshire-England-genealogy by either sending an email to <[email protected]> or by going to the Groups.io website, searching for Hampshire genealogy and clicking on the button “join this list." I'd like to also urge you to join the Hampshire Genealogical Society <https://www.hgs-familyhistory.com/>. No matter where in the world you are, membership in the family history society associated with the area you are researching can be invaluable. The Society has a Facebook page at <https://www.facebook.com/HGSfamilyhistory/> as well as it's web page. And speaking of Facebook, there's are pages for Kingsclere if you want to keep up with what's going on in the community: Kingsclere Community Library, Kingsclere Parish Council, The Kingsclere Village Club, and Kingsclere community. Hope this is helpful. Lynne

I haven't heard what's happening with the ENG-HAMPSHIRE (ENG-HANTS) list, but HAMPSHIRE has morphed into [email protected] If you're interesting in joining [email protected], go to <https://groups.io/g/Hampshire-England-genealogy> and click on Join This Group. Before RootsWeb closes, be sure to post your interests on each list to which you belong so that in years ahead other researchers will be able to find you. Post the surnames you're researching, the location, and any dates. Be sure to include your email address within your post, since RootsWeb strips the FROM info away when it archives list messages. Disguise your address from spammers by substituting the word AT for the @ sign in your email address. This is such a nice list. I was honoured when Barbara Mallyon asked me to take over as list admin. It makes me sad to leave you all, but I know I'll see some of you on other lists. Anyway, before I start blubbering, I'll say goodbye. I wish you all much success in your family research. Kindest regards, Lynne

    3. Dear friends, In the midst of all this craziness on RootsWeb, please know that we haven't forgotten our friends in Australia. Our hearts go out to you in this most difficult time. No matter where we live, we're watching what's happening, feeling very helpless, and are appalled by the horrible fires and the destruction they're causing. We're thinking of the lives lost, both human and animal, and feeling incredible sadness. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Lynne

    3. Such a shame. For anyone wishing to remain in contact my current email address is [email protected] and I maintain annual subscriptions to Ancestry, Findmypast, and, most importantly, the British Library Newspaper Archive. I rarely visit Hampshire Record Office now, as I can’t sit comfortably for long, but I am still capable of ‘hands-on’ research, should the need arise. I’ve just invested in a 32” computer monitor and an enhanced keyboard to meet the challenges of old age, infirmity and deteriorating vision, recognising the need to maintain active grey matter! Best wishes to all.
