I am trying to find out what happened in the 1850's to 2 of my gg uncles from Durley. One the 1851 Census Andrew (22) and William WINTER (20) are at Plymouth Citadel Barracks, Plymouth Devon in the military. There are a few other Durley lads on the list: Richard Gumbleton (22 - Upham) John S Knapp (22 - Durley) William Pavey (20 - Durley) Can any one throw any light on any of these lads and the reason they may have been signing up? the rest of the family were ag.labs. I am trying to find out what happened to Andrew and William as I cannot find them on later Census records. I suspect that they may have died during the course of their service. To date I have not been able to locate their deaths. I would really appreciate some help with this as locating them will almost complete this branch of the family for the 1800's. In case anyone is interested I have a list of the soldiers listed at Plymouth Citadel Barracks on the 1851 that originated from Hampshire, they were approx 150. Thanks Bev
