    1. reading Seamans' services records- another question

    3. I have found an ancestor's navy record saying his period of service was from 1 Jan 1871 to 3 April 1874, when he was discharged. I have found him on the 1871 census on a RN ship in Zanzibar. Having read the notes on searching the records I understand that if he entered service before 1873 there will be an additional service record in ADM 139. Could someone tell me if these records are likely to give me any further information. Many thanks. Kathryn

    3. Hi Kathryn ADM 139 was prior to ADM 188 and should give you his date of joining the service and period of engagement, plus a physical description. Also the ships served on with rating, character, and period of service.
