    3. Hi, Many thanks to Pan, Dave and Alan, for their suggestions re the death of my John GARDINER. I've just received a copy of the 1851 census of Fareham, and his wife is shown as a widow, so obviously he died prior to 30th March that year. However, the census lists a unnamed child age 'less than one month' and John's widow's relationship to it as 'grandson'. In later census that child, one Charles F. GARDINER, is listed as her son. But...there were two other daughters, who at the time of the 1851 census, who were over 20 years of age and unmarried. Now I'm getting suspicious! But that it not the reason for this message. The other families are listed as living on West Street, but the GARDINERs are listed as living at 'Blachbrook Railway Station''. I know the father was described in one document as a 'Railway Agent', and the 19 year old son in the census is listed as a 'Clerk to Railway Compy'. My questions are: 1. Was the London & South Western Railway Station on West Street? 2. Is there an 1850 Directory of Fareham available, and is it likely to list the Station Master? I believe John GARDINER may well have had that job before he died. The other families listed on the two pages I have are: Joseph SCOTT, 64, b Basingstoke, and dau Margaret, 35 b Fareham.
