Henry Groves's father John died before Henry was born, and was raised by Jeremiah Jacobs his stepfather who was a bricklayer. As Henry didnt know his father personally it would be unlikely that he would follow his natural father's occupation, but followed his step-father's calling instead. I think John was a carpenter, but as he probably worked on boat building (very common on the Island) he might well have called himself a shipwright.
