Hi everyone!, I am requesting the assistance of some kind soul to help me with a look up of 1851 Census of Winchester. I have place this same message on Rootsweb Hampshire General board, no such luck with any answers, but I still have my fingers crossed! Name of Interest - Sgt James NEILL of 38th Staffordshire Regiment. He was born in Loughgall Ireland. He enlisted into the Regiment in 1847. His trade before enlistment was a Weaver. I am wondering if possibly James, after his enlistment, was stationed in the area 1847 to 1851. As Winchester was the Headquarters of the 38th Foot. James had a son born in 1853 in Brompton/Gillingham, Kent. James NEILL married a woman by the name of Mary WILLIAMS. Mary WILLIAMS was from Tincleton in Dorset. Born in Boadmayne, Dorset around 1826. She could have moved from Dorset for work elsewhere. As she is not listed on the 1851 Census of Tincleton, Dorset with the rest of her WILLIAMS family. Yet she is found on the 1841 Census of Tincleton, Dorset, aged then 15yrs with her WILLIAMS family. No luck with the finding James and Mary's marriage in Kent or in Dorset. Possibly they could have been married at the Barracks Church? Only the birth cert. of their son, James Williams NEILL, shows James and Mary were his parents, married, and living in Brompton, Kent. After this event of their son's birth, Sgt NEILL was shipped off to the Crimean War Sgt NEILL served in the Crimean War with the 38th Foot. Died at Scutari, Turkey in 1855. Medals Awarded, Distinguised Conduct Medal, British Crimean Medal with clasps for Alma, Inkermann and Sebastopol. Fingers are crossed one of you can help me..... Many Thanks, Karen Neill in Australia. _________________________________________________________________ SEEK: Over 80,000 jobs across all industries at Australia's #1 job site. http://ninemsn.seek.com.au?hotmail
