Hi List, Dont you just envy those people who appeared on tonight's TV program, who claim descent from Nelson? It must be wonderful to have such an illustrious ancestor on one's family tree. As someone who is descended from predominantly good yeoman stock of England ( with a few odd mariners too - but none from Trafalgar), I love to hear these stories. The TV program also claimed that there are approximately 3-4 million people alive today who can claim to be related to someone who fought at Trafalgar. Any on this list? Sandra
Old family letters from the late 1800s reflect that my King line was connected to the James King on HMS Victory, but I have yet to prove it. With a surname like King, it's no easy task and it might have just been a vivid imagination. Can't manage Trafalgar, but I've got an ancestor who was on Nelson's flagship at the Battle of the Nile. That's as close as I can get. :-( He was George SHIRLEY who lived in Portsea. Something strange here! On the National Archives list for the battle of Trafalgar the advance search gives you about thirty ships to choose from but there is no HMS Victory there!!
