Hi List, For the benefit of anyone who isnt aware of the following site... The London Gazette was the official puiblication for listing casualties, promotions and awards for the armed services. It is particularly good for WW1 and WW2 casualties. In addition it lists promotions and examination results for the Civil Service, including the post office; honours lists; examination results for the legal and medical professions; university graduations; bankruptcies. Even if your ancestor was a mere lowly temporary postman, he may well appear in the gazette. A successful search will take you to the actual page of the gazette where the information appeared. The free searchable archive for records since 1900 can be found at: http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk Hope someone finds it useful Kind regards Sandra
