Kelly's Directory of Hampshire 1889 states: "The ancient parish church of St Peter was, in 1812, with the exception of the chancel and tower, pulled down and a plain brick building erected." ".... in 1888 the church was was partially restored, a new chancel built in the Early English style and the 13th century chancel restored as a side chapel, the old pews and side galleries removed and open seats substituted." "It is intended to rebuilt the nave entirely." The 1931 directory adds that the nave was restored in 1930. The church seems to be of brick construction. Is it therefore of 'ancient' construction? Does anyone know please? Would it be the church of my LEE ancestors in the 1600s? Cheers. Margaret Green's "Hampshire Churches" adds that the tower dates from the 18th century. The church contains a 14th century oak screen, and a medieval woodcarving of St Christopher. Alan McGowan
