    3. Thanks, I have got a birth certificate and I have a marriage certificate for parents listed on birth certificate. While this matches it still dose not prove I have the right birth certificate for ggf as I have no other record of mothers name nor do I know what day and month ggf birthday was. (no family members left to ask) I could be collecting information on the wrong family. Already built up a hugh resourse on what I believed to be brother of another family member only to discover wrong person (same name, same age, same occupation, same town) Regards, Rose ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandra J Smith" <sandra.s@ntlworld.com> To: <ENG-HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 13, 2005 6:50 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-HANTS] Where else to locate Mother > Hi Rose, > You need to purchase your ggrandfather's birth certificate. 3. Hi Rose, Sorry, I misinterpreted your posting! You haven't given any dates in your message, so I am guessing end of 19th century. The chances of finding another source for the mother's maiden name is quite remote, as this wasn't the sort of information that was asked of people at that time. Did your ancestor serve in the army? If so, and if his records have survived, there is a remote possibility that his mother might be named as Next of Kin in his attestation papers, although this will not give her maiden name. Did his father serve in the army? Again, there is a possibility that the name of the wife and any children are listed - even sometimes a marriage date and place AND the maiden name. Children, when they occur, are often listed with either their age or date of birth.
