One such is the pre-Raphaelite artist John Everett Millais. Although from a Jersey family (to whom I am distantly related - a gggggrandmother was Mary Millais of Jersey), John Everett Millais was actually born in Southampton. For those who are perhaps unfamiliar with the name, two of his most famous paintings are "Bubbles" with a small boy in blue velvet gazing at bubbles in the air, and another with an old pirate-like sea-dog talking to two small boys on a beach and pointing out to sea. Of all the thousands of relations I have identified on my family tree - he is the closest I can come to a "claim to fame"!
