Linda and Tony I have found who I think to be my great great grand father and mother on the IGI: John McDonald - christened 9 Jan 1820 St Mary's Portsea (Batch No. C062613) Jane Martin - 2 possibilities for christening - 11 Jun 1826 (Batch No. C062614) or 01 May 1829 (Batch No. C062614), both St Mary's Portsea Married - 27 April 1846 St Mary's Portsea (Batch No. M062613) I would greatly appreciate any help you could give such as: 1. 1841 and 1851 census records 2. parish records 3. Where to visit in Hampshire to do some research (I'll be there in 3 weeks on holiday) 4. The quickest way to get their marriage certificate and Jane's death certificate (it takes 6 weeks through my local society and I would like it before I leave) Kind Regards Grahame -----Original Message----- From: Knightroots@aol.com [mailto:Knightroots@aol.com] Sent: Saturday, 2 July 2005 8:52 PM To: ENG-HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-HANTS] McDonald Grahame if they were christened in St Mary' Portsea they should be on the IGI at _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) but the date/s could be anytime from birth to adulthood. The 1851 census index for Hampshire has a separate index for each parish, so there are about 300 separate indexes to check. Graham, Everything your looking for is held at Hants Records office in Winchester. (Except copies of the certificates) See Link Below. http://www.hants.gov.uk/record-office/ Re the certificates. An original copy of the marriage certificate will be on microfiche within the parish register. The GRO will produce a copy for you for £7.00 or you can get a copy for £1.00 at the records office ( It could be less than that, ok won't be on the fancy paper but will have all the info your looking for). The death certificate can be ordered from the GRO http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp If you use this link it will take you straight to the order page however you'll need either the index number or the death date.
