Hi all, I am new to this mailing list. I would like to know if there are parish registers kept for Ripley? and if not where baptism, marriages would most likely have occurred for someone living in Ripley in 1808, and how I could access information from these (search services etc). My GGG Grandfather Charles BRENTON maintained throughout the census from 1851 through to 1891 that he was born in Ripley, Hampshire. The surname has been variously spelt BRENTON / BRINTON / BUNTON in the census. Charles married Hannah ??????? at some stage and in 1841 they were living in Sopley, Christchurch, Hampshire, by 1851 they had moved to Canford, Parkstone St Peter, Dorset. From there they seemed to remain in the general vicinity of Parkstone in Dorset. Hannah maintained that she was born at Mortown, Dorset. Their children state on census returns that they were born in the following locations; 1. Ann born about 1834 in Hampreston, Dorset, England 2. Henry born about 1836 in Hampreston, Dorset, England 3. Charles born about 1839 in Winfrith, Dorset, England 4. William born about 1841 in Avon, Hampshire, England 5. Hannah born about 1844 in Avon, Hampshire, England 6. Elizabeth born about 1850 in Parkstone, Poole, Dorset, England 7. Charlotte born about 1853 in Parkstone, Poole, Dorset, England (my gg grandmother who later married George FOOT) I only recently discovered this family because of the variations that were used with the surname spelling. So any help that can be provided would be welcome. Cheers Leila from a very hot, dry sunny Queensland
