Hi I am interested in locating people who had relatives that served in the Chinese Maritime Customs (CMC) or had other connections with the service. Whilst the CMC 'Outdoor Service' which included the equivalent of the UK Waterguard recruited principally from sailors and ex services of various nationalities who had found themselves in China, there was a brief attempt around 1913 to recruit from HM Customs. A small number of recruits went out to China but many left the CMC quite quickly as they found themselves over qualified for the what they were asked to do and found better paid jobs locally.
