I know this may be a bit off topic but I'm hoping one of you may be to help with some RN knowledge or refer me on One of my ancestors joined the RN as a Boy Seaman at the age of 14 - would he have needed to have his parents' permission or another adult if his parents were dead ? Was enlistment as a Boy the same as becoming an apprentice? Hope someone may be able to help Thanks Beryl
