Hello all, This is my first posting to this list. Have not yet browsed all the archives. I am trying to establish where my ancestors Stephen WILD and Sarah STAMP were born and married in England. Since their eldest son is purported to have been born in Basingstoke, Hampshire, and I see on the IGI several mentions of a marriage for a Stephen Wild in Basingstoke Hampshire in 1795, I thought I would address this list. ***************************************** This couple had four sons before leaving England and settling in Ontario [Upper Canada] near Cayuga in about 1835 (approximately, possibly a bit later). Four sons:: 1) James Wild, b. Oct 20 1825 in Basingstoke, Hampshire 2) William Wild b. March 18, 1830 or 1831 (?), in Lancashire (or Yorkshire, not certain). Married Elizabeth Sutor. 3) Thomas Wild birthdate uncertain, birthplace unknown. Married Catherine Goss 1855, North Cayuga Ontario, Canada. This couple moved to Michigan, U.S. Died 1898, Bay City Michigan. 4) George Wild b. 1831 or 1833, birthplace unknown. Married Elizabeth Love. According to the monument in the Riverside Cemetery, North Cayuga, Ontario Canada (records destroyed in a fire). Stephen WILD 1802-1885 Sarah STAMP 1802-1856 On the adjacent monument: George Wild 1831-1867 (however, George turned up in Bay City, Michigan in 1898 to attend his brother Thomas' funeral, according to an obit for Thomas). (his wife) Elizabeth Love (b. 1824 Ireland -d. 1918 Hamilton Ontario). Monument states Died Apr. 4, 1918, Age 94 years) George Wild and Elizabeth Love are my g-g grandparents. Their known children: Margaret 1860-1944; Mary (?); James, b. 1864 d. ? The 1861 Ontario Census for Haldimand County also lists a Sarah, age 4 and Margaret, age 2 with parents George and Elizabeth. The 1861 Census for Haldimand also lists a 54-year-old Stephen Wilde as a farmer (birth date would be off by 5 years), born ENG, CE and possibly his son William, labourer, age 30 along with an Elizabeth, age 26 (likely William's wife). ***************************************** Thank you for any suggestions or ideas and apologies if there is too much detail on descendants.
