Thanks David, I think I'll disregard the Headley entry at the moment. I have found some HARDINGs in Hurstbourne Tarrant and Hurstbourne Priors in 1841, so am looking for a link there. I'll keep digging. However, there are two Headleys in Hampshire, neither particularly near the Hurstbournes. Headley 1) is in Bordon, to its east, near the east border of Hampshire Headley 2) is in Thatcham about 1/2-way between Kingsclere and Greenham Common, about 10 miles NE of the Hurstbournes.
