Hello, I have a Harriet HARDING, b ca 1843, whose Hampshire birthplace on various censuses is Hussbourne, Hustborn, Harlsborn. Could this be Hurstborn? I have found a Harriet HARDING in 1861 born in Headley. Does anyone know if this in near Hurstborn? Thanks for any help. Liz Coles in Munich
Dear Liz, they do look like garbled attempts at Hurstbourne (still written Hursborne as late as the 17th century. However, there are two Headleys in Hampshire, neither particularly near the Hurstbournes. Headley 1) is in Bordon, to its east, near the east border of Hampshire Headley 2) is in Thatcham about 1/2-way between Kingsclere and Greenham Common, about 10 miles NE of the Hurstbournes.
