    3. Hi Sheila, A nurse child was a child who was "farmed out" to another, usually as a small infant, but sometimes lasting for many years. (I have come across one of 14 years of age).     3. Only difference is that often no payment was offered or accepted for the childs upkeep by the family looking after the child.
