William CAMPER (born London, date unknown) founder of the world-famous Gosport ship- and yacht-building concern Camper & Nicholsons, appears to have retired to Curdridge, Hants in about 1860. He died there (or in Droxford) in 1863. I've come across references to, but no detail about, Curdridge Inclosure, where he was enumerated in the 1861 Census, and Camper House, Curdridge. Does anyone happen to know anything about these places, or about Camper's time in Curdridge? And is anyone knowledgeable about the Camper family? It seems that he had no male heir, although he did have daughters (1) Mary Ann, who married her father's clerk, Robert Storey, (2) and, perhaps, Susanna. I'm waiting for a copy of his will which might shed more light on all this. My Internet searches have not been productive. I'm not related to the Camper family. My interest is in Gosport history.
