Trying to find the parents of Elijah James born about 1807, He states born Odiham on one census and Chichester on another, He lists father as Robert James on his marriage to Olive Mears in 1842. Elijah and Olive lived in Ipping Sussex then moved to Gosport Hampshire. Elijah was brazier, tinker. I have all info on Elijah and Olive after their marriage. Their son Elijah ran Bulls Head Inn on South Street Gosport. Elijah and Olives daughter Alander is found on 1851 census living with her aunt Sarah James Lodging house keeper South Street Gosport. There is an Adam and Sarah James south street on 1841 census. This could be brother of my Elijah. Any help finding parents and siblings of Elijah James 1807 would be greatly appreciated. Heather

Baptism at Odiham - 29Sep1805 Elijah - Robt & Eleanor James Baptism at Froyle - 14Sep1788 John - Robt & Eleanor James - Vagrants Other known children - Henry and Adam. Entries refer to the couple as vagrants or travellers. They were part of the large James family of Gypsies who travelled Hampshire and adjoining counties. The baptism at Froyle took place in September when there was an influx of Gypsies for hop picking. My Gypsy ancestor Samuel Ayres was baptized there on 7Sep1788. Hello Alan Wow, Thank you for that info. I have been looking for years. I think this is The correct one too as somewhere I had Eleanor as mother but didn't know Where I got that info. We have been trying to connect Elijah with Henry who Was transported to Australia after the Headly Riots 1830. The information I Have on Henry is he was born Kingsclear 1790. Thank you again for the nice Christmas gift of information. Will check the Web site out. I did look there a couple of years ago but couldn't find anything.
