Hello All My maiden name was CHARLTON and they lived in north London from the early 1800s, but before that they came from the Heckfield/Hartley Wespall/Swallowfield areas. The great majority of Charltons came from the north-east of England, but mine were seemingly always of Hampshire/Berkshire. I've got back with a fair degree of certainty to GEORGE CHARLTON, b. 1729, Swallowfield, who married ANN CHILDS b.c.1700, probably Basingstoke which is where they married on 20 May 1752. Their son GEORGE, b.1753, Hartley Wespall, married MARY on 6 Jan 1783, Heckfield, and the last of my Charltons to be born in Hampshire was their son CHARLES in 1784, who married another MARY and moved to London. Just wondered whether anybody else might be searching for the same family? Any help would be much appreciated.
