Thanks to those who responded to my message re John CADDY who died before 1938 and whom, we are told adopted Lillian (Lilian) Elizabeth unknown. Lillian was born in 1911 and we have photos of her aged 18 months with dog Scamp, 10 years of age taken at a photographer's in Ryde, 12 years of age taken at a different photographer's in Ryde and 18 years of age, taken we believe in Ryde but not certain. Lillian died in 1967 in London. Lillian is the source of this information. However, Lillian also called herself Pat (Lily). Lillian said she was married to Simon Charles Knoller and we do know she had one daughter in 1937, whose birth cert. we have. It does name Simon Charles Knoller as father and Lilian Elizabeth Allen as his wife and the mother of the child. This was in Surrey. Simon disappeared shortly after the child's birth (Lillian says killed), and she married again in 1938 to Eric Hillman-Lovitt. We also have located that marriage cert. in Surrey. It is on this cert. that she states her father as John Caddy, of Independent Means. We have looked at several Lilian Elizabeth Allen's, none of whom married a Knoller, at least in England, and none of whom appear to be our Lilian. We do have a photo of Lilian in Cologne, Germany in about 1933-35, so of course it's possible Simon was German and they married there, if they married at all. We don't know if he lived in Ryde, holidayed in Ryde, or if he was even in the picture when Lillian's photos were taken in Ryde. As you can see, we have a dilemma here we are trying to solve.
