Hello Listers. My Mills family lived and worked at Potbridge Farm. Potbridge near Odiham. They were there from about 1889-1896 and several children were born during that time. I have been unable to find baptisms for them in nearby churches. I have looked at an old map of Potbridge and noticed there was a Methodist Chapel there in 1897. Does anyone have information on this chapel or know if there are baptism records. If so where would they be found. Thankyou _________________________________________________________________ Love Hotmail? Check out the new services from Windows Live! http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/132630768/direct/01/
Are you sure that your Mills children were actually baptised? While it was compulsory since 1837 for them to have been registered with the GRO it was, and still is, parental preference regarding whether or not a child was baptised. Likewise, a baptism can, and did, take place at any church according to parental choice. If the parents happened to work for a family who travelled, such as those who spent part of the year in one house and "the season" in another the whole indoor staff would have followed them. Were they travellers themselves, working at itinerant jobs according to season? If so they could have had children baptised wherever they were working. My Mills (who don't appear to be related to yours) were very strict Methodist and lived Hedge End. They attended the Bible Christian Church which merged with the Uniting Methodist Church in early 1900's. Regards, Rose.
