I did my research on my Batchelor line of Southampton and environs nearly 40 years ago. The latest census available was the 1861 and I found my Annie Batchelor (GGmother) after hours of searching through the originals in London. There were no locally held copies available in those days - in fact I am not even sure that microfilm had been invented then! And certainly no index to ease the searching. A cousin started looking at the same line recently and imagine my shock/horror when he came up with a more likely candidate. After visiting all the later census returns, I have to agree with him and that my "tree" is not correct. Fortunately the research wasn't totally wasted as both women shared the same great grandparents. I think the lesson here is that one should always review past research in the light of new records that become available. Just because I did the research all those years ago - didn't make it right.
