    1. [ENG-HANTS] 1911 Search Anomaly
    2. Francis Payne
    3. I recently searched for a John Francis, living in Walkford in 1911 and duly got one match. Purchased the original document only to find the address was Bournemouth - nothing to do with Walkford. I've now realised that when doing a search using "residential place" any valid name within a certain registration district will bring up the same result. i.e. the same John Francis appears if I use Walkford, Pokesdown, Bournemouth, etc - all being in the Christchurch district. This therefore renders this search feature quite useless or, at best, very misleading. If you don't buy the full image you'd never know and draw an incorrect assumption as to where someone was living - as I had ! I reported this to the census co who refunded my 30 credits very promptly. However, there was no explanation re the problem or if they understood it or intended to fix it. Anyone else have a similar experience ? Francis Auckland, NZ

    3. Hi Francis You may have to email them a few times before they take notice. They tend to send out a generic reply to error reports, unless you persist - then they take notice. When I was using the Beta test site, I realised that the search engine would not allow searches for any surnames transcribed with a hyphen e.g. Webber-Taylor. When I reported this the first time, they just sent out a generic reply about the search facility being limited until they'd assessed the demand. It wasn't until I reported the problem for the third time, each one a little more forceful, that they finally looked into the problem properly and realised that I had highlighted a real issue. They are now trying to find a solution.
